Yann Arthus-BertrandThe heart of Voh
Voh is a community in the Northern Province of New Caledonia, where this natural phenomenon originated. The heart is the product of a natural four-hectare clearing of a mangrove forest and is considered a symbol of an ecosystem that is worth protecting. in 1999, this heart was the cover image of the photo book "Earth from above" by photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Today it is emblazoned on stamps, T-shirts, diaries and much more. There are still several ways to view the heart today: either from an ultralight aircraft from above or by climbing the Katepai mountain massif at an altitude of 700 meters and gazing at the heart in peaceful silence. Back then, the inhabitants of the village harvested 300 tons of coffee a year and ran livestock and aquaculture. A place that is worth protecting and ecologically valuable. There are more natural phenomena like this in the Great Barrier Reef, where the heart is formed by a small collection of corals. Nature is full of surprises and beauty!
