Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 - Leica

Bokeh power and super light intensity - Zhongyi

as part of our Online Photo Days

Anyone looking for a lens with aesthetic bokeh and high image quality even at open aperture will find what they are looking for with the Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95. The lens impresses with an extreme speed of f/0.95, which promises creative bokeh of portraits and objects as well as the best low-light performance. In addition to the versions for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF full-frame cameras and DSLR cameras with Canon EF-Mount, it is now also available for the Leica M-Mount. The lens has been specially redesigned for Leica M camera systems and supports their Range Finder focusing system. The lens is also compatible with third-party autofocus adapters, allowing Nikon Z or Sony FE camera owners to use this manual lens with autofocus support.

Available light in a new light

With this special lens for the Leica M mount, Zhongyi has succeeded in combining high imaging performance with a bokeh of strong character. As a result, "available light" appears in a new "light" and gives ambitious photographers more options for personal fine-tuning. The optical design of the 50mm lens enables razor-sharp photo and film shots in the image center even at an aperture of f/0.95. By stopping down slightly, sharp images can be taken right to the edge. The large aperture of f/0.95 makes the lens one of the fastest lenses for the Leica M mount on the market.

The lens

A carefully developed optical system with eleven elements in eight groups, including an HRI element (High Refractive Index) and several UD elements (Ultra-Low Dispersion), effectively minimizes chromatic aberrations and delivers impressive image quality. Nine rounded aperture blades ensure an extremely soft and diffuse bokeh. This fast lens really comes into its own in portrait, people, reportage and street photography, producing breathtaking images with a special flair. It offers a high degree of control over the depth of field to isolate subjects from the background and achieve selective focus effects. Filmmakers will also get their money's worth, as the infinitely adjustable aperture and precise manual focusing guarantee high-quality shots - even in the most difficult lighting conditions.

The handling of the Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 is excellent. The high-quality lens is made of metal and sits comfortably in the hand. The aperture ring can be adjusted steplessly from f/0.95 to f/16 without the rather inconvenient click-in for filming and, unlike other lenses, is located close to the front element for comfortable operation. The focus ring is not too smooth, which is particularly important with such a large open aperture of 0.95. Accidental adjustment is thus prevented, as only a few millimetres decide whether the image is sharp or blurred. A complete movement of the focus point from close up to infinity takes about half a turn. The lens's ability to focus is breathtaking and creates an extremely creamy bokeh, which is particularly flattering for portraits. Those who like things extremely sharp, on the other hand, will get their money's worth at aperture f5.6, the sweet spot of this lens.

Exceptional night photography

The large aperture is also tailor-made for night photography. With high sharpness and excellent coma correction, it produces brilliant images in low light - with full support of the Leica Range Finder focus system.

Autofocus with the help of third-party adapters

For Nikon Z and Sony E-mount camera users, there are various autofocus adapters on the market that turn this manual Leica M-mount lens into an autofocus lens. This is made possible by the short flange distance of the Leica M mount. Both the Megadap adapter MTZ11 and the Techart adapter TZM-01/LM-EA7 are supported. The adapters enable the AF focus modes AF-S, AF-C, AF-F as well as face/eye detection with IBIS stabilizer, which makes focusing with this f/0.95 lens on Nikon Z and Sony E-mount cameras particularly convenient.
