Track by Trek - with Materia to happiness into the future II
One of
Paul Ripke's traits is to explore new things and meet people. This curiosity and this credo also gave rise to the desire to go on a trip around the world with his buddy Marten Laciny. in 2013, this wish came true for the two of them. Materia's album "Zum Gl?ck in die Zukunft II" was visualized with the pictures and videos of the "Track by Trek" world tour
a report by Paul Ripke

In mid-2013, I was in Uganda with my best friend Marten Laciny, better known as Materia, and the organization Viva Con Agua to support the construction of a well. Marten's album "Zum Gl?ck in die Zukunft II" had just been finished and we were thinking together about how we could visualize the album with all the trimmings. As we had wanted to travel the world together for a long time anyway, we tried to explain to the music label that we absolutely had to fly around the world to produce photos and videos

And it worked out: In October, we stood at Hamburg Airport, from where we were to travel around the world in four weeks. The first credo of the trip: We only planned the rough route, nothing else. No hotel, no tourist guide or translator, just go out and do it. Our mission was to photograph the album cover in different variations, to take press photos of Marten for the album release coverage and to accompany our trip in a reportage style. I had a medium format camera with me for the cover shoots. For the reportage, which was later published in the illustrated book "Mit Marteria zum Gl?ck in die Zukunft II", I photographed with my Leica M and a 24mm lens open aperture and mostly from the hip, pictures of the country and its people.

As the reportage of the trip around the world was also to be captured in moving images, we filmed small teaser videos at each stop on the journey. With the title "Track by Trek", 8 videos were created in which a song was repeatedly played and visualized ten weeks before the release of the album. We filmed the video for "Gleich kommt Louis", in which Marten raps about the birth of his son, in front of a hospital in Mexico City, and for the song "Die Nacht ist mit mir" we filmed in a bar in Girdwood, Alaska. At every stop we tried to find friends while drinking beer who would show us the area and help us film and photograph at the same time. And that worked out well. Through our newfound local friends, we discovered places we would probably never have gotten to on our own and things came about that we could never have planned. This approach to the countries and people is also reflected in the many pictures.

The biggest challenge was the data. In total, we produced around 22 TB of videos and photos, most of which I imported on the plane and sent home as a backup on a hard disk with UPS. I usually edited the resulting images immediately and edited videos on the plane. We traveled as inconspicuously as possible, without Peli cases or obvious camera bags. In 30 days we were on the plane a total of 27 times, the journey took us from Switzerland to Chile to the Atacama Desert, on to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, from Mexico City via Girdwood in Alaska to Bangkok, from where we finally went via Lukla to Kathmandu in Nepal. After four weeks of traveling the world, we also had a bad experience at the end: on the very last flight, all of our luggage disappeared.

Issue 58 revolves around the topic of "perspectives". The focus is just as much on the classic use of the term as it is on an abstract approach to this concept, for example a view from the perspective of other people or professional groups. further information
