The Dreischeibenhaus

It was the coldest and sunniest day of the week and I decided to take a closer look at the imposing buildings that I had only been able to glimpse in the distance the previous evening. I arrive at one of the most prominent buildings in D?sseldorf: the Dreischeibenhaus.

I immediately had several ideas in my head as to how I could photograph the building from the 1960s and naturally set about finding the best angle. After a few minutes, I decided on the north side, which was completely bathed in diffused light and therefore revealed most of the details, as there were no reflections to distract from the structure of the fa?ade. In addition, from this perspective I had the opportunity to block out the adjacent theater and other buildings in order to focus only on the Dreischeibenhaus.

Architecture

As is common in architectural photography, I used a tilt-shift lens to compensate for the falling lines, to be precise the Nikon PC-E 24mm f/3.5 TS in combination with the Nikon D780. In post-processing, however, I used a strong fisheye look to emphasize the size of the 94m high building. Although it's been over a year now since I first saw it, I'm still overwhelmed by its aura every time, but the Dreischeibenhaus is simply one of those buildings that you have to see for yourself. Luckily, it's within walking distance of our D?sseldorf branch, so make sure you stop by the next time you visit us.
