Baader Solar Filter - the standard Mounted filters with Baader AstroSolar Safety Film OD 5.0 After more than 15 years of offering AstroSolar filter films as a do-it-yourself product, this new product family of Baader Solar Filters is designed to show the optical quality of AstroSolar Safety Film, which fulfills the condition of diffraction-limited quality.
Baader Solar Filters provide a safe way to observe and photograph the sun in the best possible quality using AstroSolar® Safety Film (OD 5.0). With many home-made filters, the filter material is stretched like a drumhead to make it look like a glass filter. However, this completely destroys the image quality and makes the filter unusable for higher magnifications. AstroSolar Safety Film must be mounted absolutely tension-free in order to act like a high-precision plane-polished optical window. This may seem contradictory to the usual perception of quality, but AstroSolar must show slight ripples. Only if the filter material is exposed to tension due to an inadequate mount will it appear no better than a simple glass filter made of optically untreated window glass.
ASBF (AstroSolar Binocular Filter) Baader Solar Filter for binoculars and camera lenses This filter family is ideal for binocular observation of the sun through binoculars (2 pieces required), as well as for camera lenses. The AstroSolar filter material is glued onto a plastic ring, whereby this plastic ring serves as a stiffener for the aluminum front frame. The thermal expansion coefficient of the plastic and the filter material are similar. The filter type is very similar in construction to the ASSF filters. The only difference is that one side is shortened to allow two such filters to be used on a pair of binoculars, or to allow a camera with an ASBF filter to be placed on a flat surface without the filter touching the surface.

pure white IR-reflecting front ring made of aluminum with stiffening edges along the outer and inner diameter, designed to protect the filter material from any contact with sharp metal edges
three centering pins with brass threaded insert are used to center the filter holder in front of the respective device opening. These pins have three different diameters, depending on the respective filter category (ASTF / ASSF / ASBF). Each of the pins has a ribbed rubber coating, which ensures that the filter can be placed easily over the telescopic opening, but makes it difficult for it to slip back into place
each of the centering pins can be attached without tools and allows adjustment to a wide range of tube diameters. The pins can be positioned on the outside or (if possible) also on the inside of the tube
Aluminum sliding blocks hold the centering pins. These sliding blocks do not rotate and have a milled pointer that points to a printed index scale
cross-head screws inserted in them allow the centering pins to be additionally tightened with a screwdriver if necessary
there is an index scale next to each punched adjustment opening for quick and repeatable centering of the filter for different tube diameters
a sliding black cover plate covers the adjustment opening and prevents sunlight from entering the optics from the side past the filter opening
three safety straps with Velcro fastener and self-adhesive counterpart to secure the position of the filter in front of the telescope
the front of each filter bears the warning: Read the instructions before use
