NexStar SLT - Goto computer control for everyone!
Have you always wanted to view celestial objects with a comfortable telescope at the touch of a button? Celestron's Star Locating Telescopes make it possible for you at an incredible price! They have built-in GoTo computer control with SkyAlign technology, German menu navigation and an extensive database - and all this at an excellent price-performance ratio.
With these telescopes you can find any celestial object of your choice immediately and without prior knowledge! Planets, comets, galaxies, comets - all just a touch of a button away. A huge spectrum of observable celestial objects is at your disposal, and the computer will automatically suggest what can be observed at any given moment.
The ready-to-use tripod and the quick-release couplings for connection to the fork mount and for the optical tube on the fork head allow you to set it up in just a few minutes - without any tools! All you have to do is extend the tripod to a comfortable height, screw the mount to the tripod, secure the telescope using the quick-release coupling on the dovetail bar and insert an eyepiece - that's it.
The NexStar SLT 90 - the compact planet hunter
The smallest member of the NexStar family is a very compact Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope. It already has enough power to show you the cloud bands of Jupiter and the dance of its moons. The ringed planet Saturn and the cratered landscapes of the moon are also easy targets for this high-quality telescope - Maksutov telescopes are not considered planetary specialists for nothing. Thanks to the long focal length, you can easily achieve the necessary high magnifications.
But numerous deep-sky objects are also no problem, be it colorful double stars such as Albireo in the Swan or star-forming regions such as the famous Orion Nebula.
Ideal for visual observers
The SLT mount is an azimuthal single-arm mount. It is optimized to be quickly operational and easy to transport. Unlike the classic equatorial mount, you do not need to align the telescope to the north, set the pole height or carry counterweights. The mount is simply set up horizontally, and after alignment (in which any three bright stars are simply set), the computer automatically ensures that the telescope moves to the desired objects and keeps them in the eyepiece: Automatic tracking independently compensates for the Earth's rotation.
This makes the SLT telescopes ideal for anyone who wants to observe the starry sky themselves: Quickly ready for use and with all the convenience you need.
However, this does not mean that you have to do without photography: Lunar photography with an SLR camera or planetary photography with a video camera such as the Celestron NexImage 5 are also possible with the azimuthal SLT mount. A T2 thread is integrated into the 1.25" reducer. You can also photograph directly through the eyepiece with a MicroStage camera platform.
For photographing deep-sky objects, however, you need an equatorial mount, as this is the only way to achieve the necessary long exposure times. Thanks to the standardized dovetail clamp, you can attach your telescope to a suitable mount with quick coupling according to the Celestron or Vixen standard at any time.
Extensive star catalogs and TOUR function for an overview
The hand controller contains a database with over 4,000 objects. These naturally include the planets of the solar system as well as countless galaxies, gas nebulae, star clusters and interesting stars. Finding it difficult to choose? Then use the TOUR mode, which shows you a selection of the most beautiful objects every evening and explains them in German on the display.
SkyAlign - setup without knowledge of the sky.
The NexStar SLT mount has motors with encoders in both axes as well as a hand controller with 4,000 objects in the database. To initialize the computer control, all you have to do is enter the time and location (selectable from the database) into the hand controller and move to any three bright celestial objects - it doesn't matter which ones, you don't even have to know them! Now the mount knows what the sky above it looks like and moves to any other object at the touch of a button.
Expandable for the latest technology - high value retention
If the SkyAlign is still too complicated for you, you can expand the telescope at any time. With the optional Celestron SkySync GPS module, you no longer need to enter the date, time and observation location. This data is automatically taken over by the telescope via the GPS satellites.
Can it be even more convenient? The SLT telescopes are compatible with the StarSense module. This is a small camera that is mounted on the telescope and allows the telescope to orient itself fully automatically to the sky - without GPS. With StarSense, all you have to do is set up the telescope, switch it on and wait about three minutes. Since StarSense is compatible with all modern, computer-controlled Celestron telescopes, you can continue to use it if you ever buy a larger telescope - StarSense also works with observatory-class telescopes.
This means that a NexStar SLT telescope can be brought up to date at any time if there are technical innovations - this ensures that your telescope retains its value!
Control via PC and smartphone
Like all Celestron NexStar telescopes, the NexStar SLT can also be controlled via PC. All you need is the optional Celestron RS cable and, if necessary, an adapter from RS232 to USB. You can then control the telescope from a Windows PC via the NexRemote software or the widely used ASCOM interface.
But the SLT telescopes also support wireless control! Using the optional SkyPortal WLAN adapter, you can control the telescope wirelessly - either via a Windows PC or via smartphone/tablet (with the optional SkyPortal planetarium program for iOS and Android). So you don't have to take a laptop with you on your observation nights, an iPhone is all you need and you have a modern graphical telescope control in addition to the hand controller, whose large buttons can also be operated with thick gloves. All options are open to you!
Sophisticated mount
The mount of the Celestron NexStar SLT telescopes is a solid azimuthal single-arm mount that can be set up without tools. Thanks to the large, easy-to-grip screws, this is also possible with gloves. The sturdy steel tripod has a shelf for accessories and a holder for the hand control box. The SLT mount supports devices weighing up to approx. 4 kg, depending on the design. This allows, for example, lens telescopes up to approx. 10 cm aperture or reflector telescopes up to approx. 13 cm aperture to be mounted stably. The clamping device on the arm of the mount fits any standardized Vixen (V) dovetail and holds it securely.
A circular bubble level, which is integrated into a tripod leg, makes setting up easier.
Power supply
The computer control is of course dependent on power. The mount offers several power supply options: Either via eight standard AA batteries if you want to be completely independent, or via an optional connection cable for the cigarette lighter socket of a car or via an optional mains adapter.
The battery compartment integrated into the mount avoids cable clutter and allows maximum mobility.
The separately available cold-resistant Baader Planetarium Outdoor power supply was developed especially for Celestron telescopes. It supplies the necessary voltage even at low temperatures - cheaper power supplies designed for indoor use often supply too little current in cold temperatures.
Compatible with almost all astronomical accessories
The NexStar SLT 90 Mak offers the standard 1.25" connection used in astronomy. This means that all common astronomical 1.25" eyepieces (31.7mm) can be used. This is particularly convenient, for example, with the Baader Planetarium Q-Turret eyepiece turret, which covers all useful magnifications and allows quick changes between different magnifications.
With an optional adapter to T2, you can also use the telescope as a telephoto lens with a focal length of 1250mm. In order to position it precisely despite the high magnification, you can switch off the automatic tracking and still move the mount using the manual control - at high speed or at minimum speed.
Future-proof
The NexStar-SLT mount can not only be used with the telescope supplied, but also with many other telescopes or spotting scopes thanks to the standard prism clamp. Thanks to the hand controller, which can be updated via the Internet, you can always keep the software up to date and add the latest technologies such as SkyPortal or StarSense at any time via the AUX connection. The telescope can also be used on many other mounts via the standardized dovetail bar, for example if you want to do deep-sky photography one day. A computer-controlled Celestron telescope offers everything you need to get started right away - and at the same time keeps all your options open for the future.
