Dock, launch, explore
Forget small star charts, complex planetarium programs and computer-controlled mounts. Finding objects has never been easier, faster and more accurate than with a StarSense Explorer. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you can find your way around the sky with confidence. Simply place your smartphone camera in the unique StarSense Dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app.
Once you have aligned your phone with the telescope's optics (which takes two minutes), the StarSense Explorer app will generate a list of currently visible celestial objects. Make your selection and directional arrows will appear on the screen to help you align the telescope. As soon as the object is visible in the eyepiece, the crosshairs turn green.

Patented StarSense Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A LISA algorithm (Lost in Space Algorithm), like the one used by satellites in orbit to correctly orient themselves, helps the app match the star patterns detected across the sky with its internal database.
While other astronomy apps claim to be able to help you locate objects, they rely solely on the phone's gyroscopes and accelerometers, which are not as accurate as LISA's technology. No other app can tell you exactly when your target is visible in the eyepiece.
High-quality Dobsonian mount
The stable Dobsonian table mount provides a sturdy base for the telescope. It is compact, lightweight and easy to transport, making it perfect for traveling. The design of the mount makes it easier for children in particular to access the eyepiece. You can also place the telescope on a stable platform such as a table or the hood of a car to bring it to a comfortable observation height. Teflon bearings ensure smooth movement in both axes. With the integrated height brake system, you can adjust the clamping force of the height axis to ensure the smoothest possible movement, even with slight imbalances. This allows you to track celestial objects moving across the night sky with ease.
The actual telescope is connected to the mount via tube clamps. The tube can thus be easily rotated into a comfortable position. The mount has an eyepiece holder so that you have your additional eyepiece(s) to hand.
Perfect for the city as well as dark locations
Even if you live in a place with slightly brighter skies and moderate light pollution, the telescope is powerful enough to show Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars and some more of the most famous celestial objects.
However, if you can move the telescope to a slightly darker location, even more objects will become visible. With this 130mm Dobsonian telescope and a relatively dark sky, hundreds of fascinating objects are within your reach.
