The fast FUJINON GF55mm F1.7 R WR has a standard focal length of 55mm (equivalent to 44mm KB) and delivers an image that approximates the viewing impression of the human eye. It features high resolving power and an attractive bokeh effect. Thanks to the handy design, which is reflected in a length of 99.3 mm and a weight of 780 g, and the weatherproof design, the lens can be reliably used in diverse environments and situations.

The natural depth effect allows expressive shots that show the main subject in relation to its surroundings. In portraits, the subject is razor-sharp against a background resolved in harmonious blur.

Outstanding image quality
The optical design comprises 14 elements in ten groups. Two aspherical elements and two ED lenses ensure excellent imaging performance and a velvety soft bokeh effect. The aspherical lenses are manufactured in a high-precision molding process with a manufacturing tolerance of just 1/100,000 millimeter. One of these lenses is located directly behind the aperture unit to correct spherical aberrations and ensure the reproduction quality of background blur. The other is positioned at the rear of the optical system, near the bayonet; it focuses the incident light rays and thus prevents loss of sharpness in the image corners.

The focus group consists of eight elements.
An aspherical lens and two ED elements ensure that a consistently high resolving power is achieved at any focusing distance. Optical chromatic aberrations in front of and behind the focal plane, so-called longitudinal chromatic aberrations, are minimized so that the out-of-focus image areas are also rendered in color. This contributes significantly to the attractive expression of the bokeh effect, which is typical for images taken with fast lenses and large image sensors.

The front lens and the lens elements of the focus group are made of highly refractive glass, as is usually used in sophisticated cinema lenses. Sharpness errors caused by the refraction of spherical lenses are effectively corrected with this special glass. The result is unchangingly high imaging performance at any distance setting, which is particularly advantageous when changing the plane of focus ("focus travel") during video recording.

Attractive bokeh effect
The iris diaphragm of the GF55mm F1.7 R WR consists of eleven blades, more than in any other GF lens. The high number of blades ensures that a practically circular aperture can be achieved even when stopped down slightly, and that the typical large out-of-focus points (bokeh) can be obtained.

Fast standard focal length
The 55mm standard focal length (equivalent to 44mm KB) is suitable for a wide range of shooting situations and subjects, including demanding reportage and street photography. The combination of a large-format image sensor and a wide F1.7 aperture opens up the possibility of visually separating the subject from the background and making it the focus of the image.

Fast and precise autofocus
The powerful DC motor of the GF55mm F1.7 R WR ensures fast and precise autofocus that reliably focuses on the subject even at shallow depth of field.

Compact design
The GF55mm F1.7 R WR is also ideal for reportage and street photography due to its handy design. Despite its high speed, the Lens is only 99.3mm long and weighs only 780g. The compact design was achieved in part by the advanced optical design with high-precision aspherical lenses.

Splash-proof and dust-proof
The weatherproof GF55mm F1.7 R WR is best suited for use in light rain and dusty environments. The barrel is sealed against moisture and dirt in nine places. These seals also ensure that the Lens can be used in low temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
