Extreme flexibility for sports and wildlife photographers - the new AF-S NIKKOR 180-400 mm 1:4E TC1.4 FL ED VR super telephoto zoom lens
Nikon presents the AF-S NIKKOR 180-400 mm 1:4E TC1.4 FL ED VR, the first telephoto lens in the NIKKOR range with an integrated 1.4x teleconverter. This Lens delivers sharp images without blurring and, with a focal length of up to 560 mm, provides the range required for the action at hand.

The AF-S NIKKOR 180-400 mm 1:4E TC1.4 offers valuable flexibility in the choice of focal lengths - whether in the stadium or in the wilderness. The integrated teleconverter can be easily and conveniently activated via a stable and well-placed lever. It allows photographers to increase the focal length range from 180-400 mm (1:4) to 252-560 mm (1:5.6) without having to change the position of their hand on the camera or Lens or take their eye off the viewfinder. The switch lever is simply operated with the middle finger of the shutter release hand. This allows the left hand to support the Lens or operate the zoom or focus ring without interruption.

The direct integration of the teleconverter into the lens design increases the range without compromising the excellent focusing performance. And with Nikon's image stabilizer (VR), exposure times that can be up to four stops slower than without stabilization are possible even with the teleconverter activated. In contrast to the normal VR mode, the SPORT VR mode enables a smoother viewfinder image and therefore better control of the image section when tracking action subjects and during fast camera movements. In addition, neither the frame rate nor the shutter release delay is affected. The advanced autofocus ensures fast and reliable subject acquisition and the ergonomics have been improved by swapping the usual positions of the zoom and focusing ring. At the same time, a lower overall weight and better balance are achieved with a fluorite lens.

Super telephoto zoom for FX format:
180 to 400 mm, with teleconverter 252 to 560 mm
(FX format: equivalent to 270-600 mm or 378-840 mm when used in DX format).

Continuous speed of 1:4 or 1:5.6:
When the teleconverter is not switched on, the speed is constant at 1:4. If the 1.4x teleconverter is used, the speed is constant at 1:5.6 over the entire focal length range.

High imaging performance:
Eight ED glass lenses ensure minimal chromatic aberration and contribute to high sharpness. A fluorite lens not only noticeably reduces weight, but also effectively minimizes lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberration.

Image stabilizer (VR):
Compensates for camera shake and enables sharp images with exposure times that are up to 4 stops longer.** The VR mode -SPORT- offers a stabilized viewfinder image even when tracking fast movements. It enables almost the same values for frame rate and shutter release delay as with VR deactivated. Perfect for birds in flight or fast sports.

Electromagnetic diaphragm:
For greater exposure consistency, especially for fast continuous shooting.

Tripod foot:
For optimum balance when shooting with a tripod.
