Fast, silent autofocus

Whether shooting street photography, or video, focusing noise is always distracting. Here, the 16-28mm relies on a stepper motor, which makes the autofocus not only fast, but also silent. When using manual focus, you get a linear manual focus curve, which allows you to readjust the manual focus very smoothly and accurately.

Image quality that delights

As you would expect from Sigma, the 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN | Contemporary FE mount scores with clear, high-contrast images and unmatched sharpness. This is achieved through Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML). The Lens is equipped with five FLD lenses and four aspheres, resulting in almost no chromatic aberrations. Particularly in the wide-angle range, sharpness that extends all the way to the corners of the image is especially important. Exactly this point is perfectly fulfilled by the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 due to the excellent image field curvature.

Adding to the well-designed construction is the AF-MF switch, which allows you to switch between automatic and manual focusing at will without using the camera menu.

IF

Internal Focusing (IF) - With internally focused Lenses, only one or more groups of lenses are moved inside the Lens for focusing. As with rear-focus lenses, this results in many advantages: Internal focusing provides faster and quieter focusing. With IF lenses, the build length of the Lens remains constant during focusing and the front lens does not rotate, allowing you to conveniently use polarizing filters and a tulip-shaped lens hood. Since the overall length of the Lens remains constant during focusing, there is no noticeable weight shift during focusing with this system. As a result, the Lens is well balanced at all times.
