The new SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary is the world's first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Canon EF-M mount cameras with sensors in APS-C format, offering an angle of view of a focal length of 24mm on the 35mm KB format and an aperture value of F1.4. In the Micro Four Thirds mount, the lens' angle of view is equivalent to a 32mm focal length lens on the 35mm KB format and it also offers an aperture value of F1.4. It is the wide-angle, high-speed lens that photographers with mirrorless cameras have been waiting for.

SIGMA's DN lenses for mirrorless cameras are characterized by a lightweight, compact body designed for everyday use and offer superior performance at all key focal lengths. This new 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary builds on the success of the 30mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary, which SIGMA launched in 2016 as the first in a new range of fixed focal lengths for mirrorless cameras. It also combines the speed of F1.4 with top optical performance.

The 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary, which is based on the same development concept as the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary, has a lens construction consisting of 16 elements in 13 groups and is made of high-quality materials. This Lens effectively minimizes optical aberrations and delivers excellent resolution even at wide open aperture and over the entire aperture range. The lens design and stepping motor offer smooth autofocus even when shooting video, and the mount is protected against dust and splash water by a seal.

About the lens designation
SIGMA lenses with the "DC" designation offer optimum performance on cameras with APS-C image sensors. Using a DC Lens on a camera with a full-frame image sensor will result in vignetting. For optimum results, the active image field of the sensor must be adapted to the image circle of the Lens. SIGMA lenses with the "DN" designation offer optimum performance on cameras with a short flange focal length.

A new system for mirrorless cameras
Over the years, SIGMA has put together an extensive range of fast fixed focal length lenses from wide-angle to telephoto. Now, SIGMA is developing a series of interchangeable lenses for mirrorless cameras with lightweight and compact bodies for comfortable everyday shooting, while delivering superior performance and covering the most important focal lengths.

Released in 2016 as the first in a new series of fixed focal length lenses for mirrorless cameras, the 30mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary combined F1.4 speed with top optical performance. To achieve this high speed in a compact contemporary lens, SIGMA took on a variety of challenges, employing the latest optical design technologies and utilizing digital camera correction to further improve the optical quality of the lens. While prioritizing the optical performance of the lens, SIGMA also developed a lightweight, compact body with stable AF that is really easy to use.
Like the 30mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary, the 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary is equipped with SIGMA's latest technologies and offers a speed of F1.4 while minimizing optical aberrations.

The first lens in SIGMA's range of fixed focal length lenses for mirrorless cameras was the standard fixed focal length 30mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary. It is now followed by the wide-angle fixed focal length 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary. In the future, SIGMA will add a telephoto lens to the series, making it a new complete system for photographers with mirrorless cameras.

A fast fixed focal length Lens is ideal for experiencing the essence of photography. Simply choose the focal length that suits the image idea and enjoy full control over the depth of field.

The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN - Contemporary is the world's first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Canon EF-M mount cameras with APS-C format sensors, offering an angle of view of 24mm focal length on the 35mm-KB format and a speed of F1.4. Image quality that rivals that of our Art line of Lens
With 16 elements in 13 groups, the optical system features a variety of high-tech and high-end components, including three FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements and two bare molded aspherical glass elements. The optical design minimizes optical aberrations and guarantees outstanding resolution even at wide-open aperture and across the entire aperture range. The two aspherical lens elements in particular have ultra-precise surfaces polished to tolerances of less than ten nanometers. This minimizes the so-called onion ring effect in the bokeh, which some aspherical elements produce, and ensures clear image quality across the entire image. In addition, the structure of the optical system gently bends the light to minimize sagittal coma and deliver optimal optical performance from the center to the edges of the image. The result is a soft, rounded bokeh with even light distribution across the entire shot.

Dust and splash proof construction
The mount has a special seal that makes the Lens an excellent choice for shooting in a wide range of conditions.

Specially adapted lens hood (included) to prevent unwanted light
The lens hood blocks unwanted light that can affect photos while minimizing reflections within the lens hood itself. The lens hood also has a rubber coating and an anti-slip groove, making it easy to hold in a wide variety of shooting situations.
