If a large scene is to be illuminated for a shot, then flash units with a high guide number are the best choice. The higher the guide number, the further the light emitted by the flash will reach. Modern flashes with a TTL function take over the specifications of the camera's internal light meter, so that the photographer can take his time to compose his picture.
