Styled bridal shoot with the SIGMA 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art

To get myself in the mood for the upcoming wedding season, I arranged a small styled shoot to pick up on current trends. In a styled shoot, several service providers work together and provide their services free of charge for the shoot. In return, each of these service providers receives the images for free use. Such photo shoots can turn out very differently and ultimately there are no limits to the team.
For each season there is a trend color, for 2019 livingcoral was determined. It was therefore clear to us relatively quickly that we wanted to integrate this color into our shoot. For me as a photographer, it is very important not only to create inspiring shots, but also to ensure that a lot of detail shots are created. In this way, I want to ensure that the work of the individual service providers is shown to its best advantage and that the participating service providers have sufficient image material that they can use.

Playing with the depth of field

I make sure to work with a small aperture, as I find it more charming and atmospheric when you can see a play with the depth of field in the picture. Of course, it's still important that the work of the service providers is clearly recognizable
That's why I opted for the SIGMA 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art for this shoot. I love working with fixed focal lengths and since I usually work with the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art and the SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, the focal length of 40mm was an exciting comparison. And the focal length was just right for me!
Sometimes 50mm is too "close" for me, especially when you work in a small location and don't always have enough space to gain distance to the subject and take a full body shot. The 35mm is equally perfect for full body and partial shots, but with a very strong close-up in the portrait area, slight distortions are possible. This shoot took place in a very small location, yet with the SIGMA 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art I didn't even feel like I had to restrict myself in any way.

Convincing sharpness

On the contrary, the SIGMA 40mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art really impressed me, even with the detailed shots I mentioned. Especially the shots of the stationery are always a bit of a challenge, because when you photograph the flatlay, you don't want to have any distortions. At the same time, you don't always have the necessary distance to use the normal focal length of 50mm and, of course, the sharpness has to be right. Especially with the image shots of the details of various services, this was more than convincing. I would like to emphasize at this point that I photographed the entire series open aperture, with aperture F1.4. During image processing, only color correction was carried out to support the trend color Livingcoral and skin retouching was applied in places.
