Storytelling instead of algorithms - Hanna Ki on photography in transition

On July 22, 2025, creative minds from the photo and video industry gathered at the Kürzer brewery in Düsseldorf-Flingern for the Foto Koch x Canon networking event. In addition to cool drinks and inspiring conversations, the guests were treated to a very special talk: Hamburg-based photographer Hanna Ki spoke about the changing face of photography and touched the audience with her clear attitude, authenticity and passion for visual storytelling.

The world is full of images - but what remains?

In an industry that is increasingly dominated by algorithms, trends and technology, Hanna Ki posed perhaps the most important question of the evening:"What actually makes a picture significant?" Her answer: It's not the equipment or the likes - it's the story behind it, the attitude, the perspective, the handwriting. For Hanna, photography is not a product, but a form of language that conveys emotions, experiences and values.

From Hamburg to the world: Who is Hanna Ki?

Hanna, 27 years old and traveling the world, photographs atmospheric campaigns for travel and lifestyle brands, hideaways and outdoor projects. Her focus is on authenticity rather than staging, on brands that not only want to be seen, but also felt. Her work begins where traditional photography ends: with intuition, light and emotion.

Attitude instead of hashtags: USP rethought

Hanna's appeal to look for one's USP not in technology or trends, but in one's own attitude was particularly impressive. Those who take photographs with responsibility, who show empathy, who consciously create closeness and distance, remain irreplaceable - especially in a time when AI and smartphones seem to be able to do everything technically.

Price vs. value - a discussion that affects many

In her presentation, Hanna also addressed a topic that affects many creative freelancers: the difference between price and value. In times of tight budgets and growing competition, it is all the more important to know your own value - not for likes, but for the depth and meaning of an image.

The camera as a tool, not a status symbol

Although the event was held in cooperation with Canon, Hanna remained authentic: she loves her Canon R5 - not because of the brand, but because it is her creative tool. What counts is not the "what", but the "why" behind a photo.

"We are not here to fulfill expectations - we are here to create interpretation."

Hanna Ki concluded her lecture with this sentence - and struck a chord with many of those present. In a world that is loud, fast and full of images, she pleaded for silence, depth and genuine connection. She reminds us that as photographers, we are not content producers, but visual storytellers who can make the world a little more understandable, tangible and honest with their perspective.

Conclusion

Hanna's lecture was more than just an insight into her work - it was an invitation to rethink photography. If you missed it, you definitely missed something. Those who were able to listen went home inspired and with a stronger attitude. Authenticity instead of algorithms - a plea that remains.
