In addition to full-frame cameras Canon also offers SLR cameras with a smaller sensor in the so-called APS-C format.
The advantages of this sensor size lie on the one hand in the handiness of the camera, since these can be designed smaller and lighter and on the other hand in the pricing. The more compact design of the camera also pays off for the lenses, as they have to illuminate a narrower image circle and can protrude deeper into the camera body due to the smaller mirror. This also allows for a more compact design of the lens. The EF-S bayonet, which has been optimized for this purpose, can accept both EF and EF-S lenses, but the latter cannot be used on Canon SLR cameras with full-frame sensors with pure EF bayonet.
To note, there is a conversion factor of 1.6 of the focal length of EF lenses on SLR cameras with APS-C sensor. So a focal length of 50mm converted to 35mm/full frame is a focal length of 80mm. In addition to the smaller and lighter and mostly cheaper EF-S lenses, the owner of a Canon SLR camera with APS-C sensor can also consider EF lenses. Thus, there is a wide range of lenses to choose from, which should meet all photo and video requirements. Canon's range covers all focal length ranges, from super wide angle and wide angle to normal and telephoto. Here, most lenses have an integrated image stabilizer (IS) and fast and quiet motors for focusing (USM, STM). In addition, Canon offers with the L-series particularly high-quality lenses, which are characterized not only by first-class imaging performance, but also by a robust splash-proof and dust-proof construction; here Canon also has special lenses such as magnifying glass or tilt/shift lenses in the portfolio. Not only Canon has lenses for its SLR cameras in its portfolio. Also third party manufacturers like Tamron, Tokina, Samyang and Sigma have included lenses specially designed for the EF-S bayonet in their range. These lenses also cover many common focal length ranges and are mostly also equipped with integrated image stabilizer, quiet motors and internal focusing. Usually they have very appealing prices for many ambitious photographers. From traditional manufacturers like Zeiss or Meyer-Optics-G?rlitz, which focus on highest optical and haptic quality, however, do not offer EF-S-only lenses in their portfolio. An SLR camera not only offers a wide variety of options when it comes to choosing the right lens, it also offers an excellent choice of Accessories. This ranges from Tripods to Bags to smaller gadgets, which facilitate the photographing. But also from Flash units up to big Studio Lighting; there are almost no limits.
