Canon's EF-series lenses are specifically tailored to the EOS SLR cameras and form the high-quality core segment of the Japanese manufacturer's lenses. Although they were originally designed for full-frame sensors, they are also compatible with all other sensor types in the EOS range. They cover an impressive focal length range from 8 to 800 mm, i.e. from ultra-wide-angle zoom to super-telephoto fixed focal length.
In between, there is a wide range of different focal length gradations, some of which are specifically adapted to certain types of photography. These range from 70 to 300mm travel zooms to fixed focal lengths for portraits and macro photography to tilt-and-shift lenses for architectural and landscape photography. The L-series within the EF product line is considered non plus ultra and meets the highest demands with flying colors. These optical flagships from Canon offer the highest quality and enormous speed. From the ambitious amateur to the demanding professional, the L series has been appreciated for many years. In the development of most camera models, the video function has now become a high priority and also meets professional standards. Since most lenses are now equipped with image stabilizer (IS) and STM (continuous automatic focusing even when shooting video) and the selection of these high-quality lenses is very large, the video function of Canon full-frame still cameras is therefore often preferred even to video-only cameras.
