It's all about the Flow - Ruslan Khasanov

It's all about the Flow
- a short interview with Ruslan Khasanov

From the magazine Schnappschuss No. 57

Ruslan Khasanov shows us in a wonderful way how to take unique, whimsical photos and videos with simple means. He experiments with a wide variety of materials and creates sensational, colorful worlds. In a short interview, he answers the most important questions In our latest Schnappschuss issue, we were able to give you a first impression of his work. Now we'd like to inspire you anew with his videos

How would you describe yourself?

I am a graphic designer and artist. I love visual experiments, which I translate into music videos and typography. I let myself drift away from reality and express strong emotions. Very rarely do I sketch or plan something exactly, it's mostly improvisation. Fortunately, I'm usually allowed to work freely on client commissions.

How did you get into this type of photography and video?

It all started in 2011 with my graphic experiments, which I depicted as letters. If you look at my work in chronological order, the development of the projects becomes clear: from static image to dynamic, from GIF to video, from typography to music video. The most important thing in my work is always the experiment and not the medium in which the idea is realized.

What makes your work special?

When I have a good idea, I start by researching on the Internet and looking for similar projects. If nothing like it exists, I realize the idea immediately. I try to tackle and complete my projects as quickly as possible. I then find myself in a real "flow". I don't let anything distract me during this time, not even sleep or tiredness, otherwise I lose interest. If the idea has already been done before, I discard it completely. I only want to work on new, original ideas.

How do you create your recordings?

The inspiration for my first video "Pacific Light" came to me while I was cooking. While mixing soy sauce and olive oil, I noticed small black pearls forming at the bottom of the bowl. I thought to myself: why not use color? I experimented with different materials until I finally focused on water, oil and acrylic paint. In general, however, I love using all kinds of materials such as oil, paint, ice, dust, wax, soap, etc. My motto is: beauty is everywhere.

I then find myself
in a real "flow"

What inspires you?

Inspiration can come from anywhere: Music, movies, nature,
all over the world... Motivation is much more important to me. There are people who motivate me to keep going and to
continually develop, as a person and as an artist. I respect people's passion for their own work. Info and more works by the artist: Ruslan (Rus) Khasanov www.ruskhasanov.com
