Leica M EV1: The first Leica M with an electronic viewfinder
Leica is making history with the new Leica M EV1: for the first time, there is a Leica M camera with an integrated electronic viewfinder (EVF). Leica is thus expanding its legendary M system, previously divided into analog M cameras (such as the M6 or MP) and digital rangefinder cameras (such as the M11, M11 Mono or M11-P), to include a third, modern segment: digital M cameras with EVF.
The M EV1 is technically based on the Leica M11, but with its electronic viewfinder, the new FN lever and a faster start-up, it offers a noticeably different user experience. In short: classic Leica design meets modern EVF technology.

Purist design: typical M, but rethought
Visually, Leica remains true to its long M history with the M EV1: a reduced, elegant body made of magnesium and aluminum, a classic operating layout and the iconic, rounded M look. But at second glance, the biggest difference is obvious: the rangefinder is missing. Instead, there is an integrated electronic viewfinder. The purist design without the rangefinder not only ensures a clearer front, but also a pleasantly uncluttered operation. The body is covered with a new synthetic leather in a diamond pattern, which is particularly easy to grip and still looks very elegant.
At less than €8,000 RRP, it is also almost €1,000 cheaper than the Leica M11 - a point that is of particular interest to a younger target group and newcomers to the M system.
The viewfinder of the Leica Q3 now in the M
The electronic viewfinder is the same as in the Leica Q3: a 0.5 inch, bright OLED display with a resolution of 5.76 megapixels and a viewfinder magnification of 0.76x. It delivers a razor-sharp, high-contrast image and has diopter correction from -4 to &2 dpt. A proximity sensor ensures automatic switching between the display and viewfinder. In combination with the 60 megapixel full-frame sensor with Triple Resolution Technology (60 / 36 / 18 megapixel modes) and the Maestro III processor, the Leica M EV1 delivers image quality that is typical of Leica and hard to beat: precise colors, impressive details and the characteristic Leica look.
Why an EVF in a Leica M?
Many Leica photographers appreciate the rangefinder, but not everyone gets on well with it. This is exactly where the M EV1 comes in. The integrated electronic viewfinder offers several advantages that are exciting for both beginners and experienced M photographers:
- "You get what you see": the EVF displays the final image even before the shot is taken. Exposure, white balance and image detail can be assessed in real time.

- Perfect for third-party lenses: Lens from Voigtländer, for example, can also be used without any problems, including exposure and focus preview.
- Compatible with R-Lenses: With the Leica R-M adapter, Leica R Lens can also be used without restriction.

New FN lever
Another highlight is the new FN lever, which replaces the classic image field selector. It works in a similar way to an FN button, but can be moved in both directions and can also be configured individually. Our recommendation is the assignment for manual focus aids.
