At the perfect moment
From the new Schnappschuss: "Humor"
Mouth wide open, eyes wide and focused on just one thing: Food. Not many people would probably allow themselves to be photographed - but our favorite four-legged friends don't care. Christian Vieler has made a name for himself with precisely this kind of humorous and fascinating pictures. He impresses not only us but also many other fans worldwide.
Christian Vieler
Vieler PhotographyChristian Vieler's career is at least as impressive as his photographs themselves. Originally from Waltrop, the trained journalist used to work as an editorial manager at a digital agency in D?sseldorf. He only took photographs on the side, either outdoors or in a private studio. This would probably have remained the case for many years - if the purchase of a portable flash in 2013 had not opened up new possibilities for him. The photographer quickly realized that he quickly reached his limits outdoors without a flash and was unable to freeze the facial expressions of his subjects perfectly. By using flash, considerably faster shutter speeds were now possible. From then on, Christian continued to test and refine his technique with his Labrador dog "Lotte". However, Lotte was not always the most patient, so he came up with the idea of drawing her attention to treats. A trick that worked brilliantly and still does today. After that it was a case of practise, practise, practise. Christian first focused on the sharpness of the image, then on the timing of how and when he threw the treat. This resulted in some very unusual and crazy shots that inspire many people today.
Christian VielerThe unique insight into the emotional world
That's how everything got rolling, and dogs and their owners visited his studio more and more often. Christian takes classic portraits here. The four-legged friends sit patiently still, wait until the photographer throws them a treat and ?click`. The snapshot at the perfect moment and the very special facial expressions with which the dogs are fully focused on the moving reward are captured. "The photos bring us much closer to our beloved pets," says the photographer. Anticipation, fear of loss, pure enjoyment and satisfaction - a range of emotions that we don't usually get to see so clearly. It is precisely this unusual insight into the dog's soul that is the main reason for his success. Especially in this day and age, photos are spreading faster than ever before - a fact that has benefited Christian, as he is now also known internationally and is constantly developing new projects. So he turned his hobby into a profession and developed a new type of animal portrait, which he and the dogs really enjoy and which gives us a unique insight into their emotional world.
