The ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 moderate telephoto lens has eleven elements in eight groups in the ZEISS Sonnar optical design. Three special glass elements ensure the highest image quality. The ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 is particularly suitable for wedding photography and portraits, where the main subject can be creatively cropped thanks to the high speed. Thanks to optical image stabilization, the ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 also produces outstanding images in difficult, moving light situations.
ZEISS Batis 2/25 and ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 are the first full-frame autofocus lenses for Sony E-mount cameras to be developed and distributed exclusively by ZEISS. This new lens family is particularly suitable for full-frame mirrorless system cameras of the Sony Alpha series. Delivery of the two lenses will start in July 2015.

Wide range of applications and modern design The ZEISS Batis 2/25 and ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 are the first two focal lengths to be launched on the market that have been increasingly requested by users of the system: a moderate wide-angle focal length and a telephoto portrait focal length. The lenses make optimum use of the camera sensors and reward users with impressive contrast and high image resolution down to the smallest detail. In addition to the fast and precise autofocus, manual focus is of course also possible, allowing the user to react flexibly and independently to different situations. The modern and clear design with smooth surfaces, which is already familiar from the high-end ZEISS Otus lenses, underlines the advanced claim and ensures the distinctiveness of the new ZEISS Lens.
Features for demanding users "Due to numerous customer requests, we have decided to integrate a focus distance display into the new Batis Lens," says Pollmann. The innovative OLED display is therefore an absolute highlight for discerning users - an innovation that has never been seen before in photographic lenses. The electronic display can be read reliably even in low ambient light. The distance of the focal plane from the camera system and the depth of field are displayed. In addition, the ZEISS Batis Lens is dust and splash-proof, enabling photography even in the most difficult weather conditions. The fast and quiet autofocus drive with linear motors ensures precise focusing of subjects even in hectic shooting situations. In addition, the lenses can also be focused manually via a non-slip, rubberized focus ring and offer the user complete creative freedom when composing images.
Both ZEISS Batis Lens also feature a floating elements design. This compensates for imaging errors of the Lens at different distance settings. Furthermore, both Lens have a standard filter thread with a diameter of 67 mm. The ZEISS Batis Lenses support all operating modes and functions of the current E-mount cameras.

Tolles Objektiv
Für meine Zwecke ist das Batis 85 ein großartiges Objektiv. Besonders die Farbwiedergabe gefällt mir sehr gut. Die Batis Reihe finde ich sehr gelungen was die Haptik und das Aussehen angeht. Das Gewicht und das Volumen liegen zwischen dem weitaus günstigeren FE 85 1.8 und dem GM 85. Die Wetterbeständigkeit war zudem auch ein Grund, warum ich mich für das Batis entschieden habe.
Einziger richtiger Wermutstropfen ist allerdings der Preis. Dieser relativiert sich dann aber durch die Zeiss Qualität.
Anstatt dem FE 24-105 + Festbrennweiten habe ich jetzt mit dem GM 24 + Batis 40 + Batis 85 eine leichte und lichtstarke Kombi (ca. 1.260 g).

Top Objektiv
Bin mit dem Objektiv sehr zufrieden. Das FE 85 1.8 ist zwar um einiges günstiger, aber die Farbwiedergabe vom Batis gefällt mir besser. Gegenüber dem Sony GM 85 ist vor allem das geringere Gewicht ausschlaggebend gewesen. Das Handling und Aussehen der Batis-Reihe gefällt mir ebenso.
Für mich ist das Batis 85 sein Geld wert.
