With a zoom, short for zoom lens, you can only win. This is because it allows you to make various settings in a focal length range by simply and quickly turning it. A zoom lens can therefore replace various other lenses with fixed focal lengths. So it's not just the ease of use that makes it worthwhile. It goes without saying that a single zoom takes up less space than, for example, one Wide angle- and a Telephoto lens; this is a great added value, especially when traveling or on vacation.
If you want to capture different image sections in a short space of time, a zoom lens is a good choice.
Cameras from renowned brands can be equipped with a variety of zoom lenses. The manufacturers Canon, Nikon or Sony offer a selection of almost up to 40 zooms with focal lengths ranging from 8 mm to 400 mm. With the traditional manufacturer Leica, for example, the selection is much smaller, as less attention is paid to quantity here.
No matter which system you use for photography, you can always buy a zoom. This is because SLR cameras as well as system and medium format cameras from well-known manufacturers have the lenses in their repertoire. With Micro Four Thirds and system cameras, zooms are now even part of the standard equipment or are included as a kit lens. That's why you don't have to worry about mount problems with the bayonet.
With a zoom lens you usually achieve a high, if not the very highest, quality. The products are therefore ideal for all photography enthusiasts for whom very good imaging performance is important. A zoom is still recommended for professional photographers who are constantly handling different lenses, as its compactness and lightness make it unbeatably practical. The speed of a zoom lens can also usually compete with some fixed focal lengths, as there are more and more lenses with a continuous aperture in the manufacturer's repertoire.
