Daniel BonteIn search of unusual motifs
"I was particularly fascinated by the architectural structure of this composition, as it shows a central staircase alongside the two symmetrically arranged side parts of the house, and thus a clear division of the picture surface by the architecture. The dark background of the staircase also reinforces the resonant effect of the actual staircase. The figurative element recedes visually behind the overall effect of the architecture. However, the profiling of the figures creates a relationship between them, which gives the picture an invigorating momentum despite its strict structure."
Daniel BonteUnusual motifs - the staircase in Kawasaki
"In my search for unusual motifs in architecture, I came across the staircase in Kawasaki, which I photographed with a 1mm wide-angle lens. The round staircase is characterized by the special lightness of the steps anchored laterally in the masonry, which creates an unusual transparency of the space. The incidence of light through the ceiling glazing, as well as through the side door openings, creates different light sources, which in turn, together with the artificial lights above the door openings, gives the picture its delicate blue-grey structure and at the same time creates a certain rhythmization of the picture surface.
