Foto Koch celebrates 100 years and we tell YOUR best stories, because without you we wouldn't be here today! Today's story comes from Chris Kaula, in which he recounts his experience of two months in Scandinavia and a very special companion.
Two months full of experiences, unique encounters and cold. Equipped with snowshoes and skis, my fellow photographer Fabian and I explored the wilderness of Scandinavia. We traveled through Norway and Finland. On the way back from our trip, we spent two weeks in northern Sweden and found a tawny owl by chance - a road in the middle of nowhere was its winter hunting ground. The roadsides were free of snow due to the road salt and he found easy prey there. Beautiful photos of this species had long been a dream of mine. Equipped with the 400mm 2.8 and a Canon EOS 5d Mark IV, we spent many hours on location and had the opportunity to take hundreds of pictures. In general, bearded owls are not very shy, but this animal was particularly familiar and the owl kept coming back to us. From there it started its hunting flights over a snow-covered meadow. The weather conditions changed every ten minutes. Sunshine was followed by heavy snow showers and gale-force gusts whipped the snow around. Brilliant weather conditions for wildlife photography!
