The outstanding imaging performance of this NIKKOR Z Lens from the S series sets new standards for full-frame 1.8 lenses. With its sharpness of detail and brightness to the corners, it leaves even previous 1.4 fixed focal lengths behind.1 This is more than a new 50mm lens. This is a new future for incredible photography.

Open to Light
The Z-bayonet mount, with its exceptionally large diameter, allows your NIKKOR Z lenses to direct more light to every corner of the frame. This, combined with the small flange focal distance - the distance between the bayonet mount and the image sensor - visibly minimizes light fall-off from the center of the image to the edges. The result is a new potential for details and subtle nuances - everywhere in the image.

The NIKKOR Z 50 mm f/1.8 S offers outstanding quality in available-light photography. This, its natural perspective, and its razor-sharp focus from as little as 0.4 meters allow for a completely free, intuitive way of working. Use the surroundings of your subject to give it a frame. Or choose a shorter distance for a detailed portrait with head and shoulders.

Reliably precise
True to life. Open to light. Both the superior resolution of this Lens and its brightness (thanks to Elaborate Vignetting Reduction) extend to the corners of the frame. As a result, every detail of your subject is reproduced with perfect precision - even when shooting at open aperture.

More sharpness
Point light sources, such as distant streetlights at night, are reproduced with superior precision because sagittal coma has been almost completely corrected. Point light sources appear in the image as naturally round dots, even at the edges of the image.

More light
Two ED glass lenses and aspherical lenses each also contribute to razor-sharp images with a high level of brilliance, clear colors and rich contrasts.

More nuances
Nikon's Nano Crystal Coatings are highly effective in reducing reflections and thus also ghosting and flare. Your image will be clearer and more brilliant, especially in backlit situations. The effect is also clearly visible on subjects with multiple light sources in the image field.

Artful at any distance

The optical design with "floating elements" (independently moving lens groups) ensures exceptionally high imaging performance even at close range. The electromagnetic control of the aperture ensures highly precise exposure with perfect consistency even during fast continuous shooting.

Made for any light
The lens supports the camera's built-in image stabilizer (VR), which allows you to use exposure times that are up to five light value stops longer.² This means you can take sharp photos in fading daylight and shoot video without camera shake.

Everything under control
The wide, easy-to-grip adjustment ring enables intuitive yet precise handling. For shooting or filming with autofocus, you can assign it the function to set ISO sensitivity or exposure compensation. For manual focus, it becomes the distance adjustment ring and depending on the speed at which you turn the ring, the focus drive responds differently. This makes it easy for you to set the focus with high precision and to pull the focus even close to subject elements when filming.
