With its stabilized zoom range from wide-angle to portrait telephoto and its F2.8 speed, this universal zoom lens is recommended for travel photography as well as for reportage even in low-light conditions. Its compact, dust- and splash-proof design is ideal for mobile, active use.

Panasonic is pleased to introduce the LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm (35mm camera equivalent: 24-70mm), a new fast, wide-angle zoom lens for the LUMIX G series that complies with the Micro FourThirds standard. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT covers virtually every shooting situation. This Lens is a redesigned replacement for the LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm / F2.8 II ASPH.

To maintain high optical performance, the H-ES12035 consists of fourteen lens elements in nine groups, including four aspherical lenses, one Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion (UED) lens, and one Ultra High Refractive Index (UHR) lens. The UHR lens element glass material has been updated to higher transmittance for even more natural color reproduction. Panasonic's unique nano-surface coating provides an effective anti-reflective coating that ensures clear viewing. By applying a thin coating with a nanometer-scale microstructure that has a low dispersion ratio, the reflection of the entire 380-780mm wavelength, including the visible light range, is reduced. Together with a newly introduced light-shielding part, the occurrence of ghosting or lens flare is minimized.

For more versatile use, the H-ES12035 has a shorter focal length of 0.15m (at the wide angle) with a larger magnification ratio of 0.21x (at 17mm), compared to the conventional LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm with 0.25m focal length and 0.17x magnification.

The new Lens is able to operate smoothly and silently to work with the camera's fast, high-precision contrast AF system with the sensor drive at a maximum of 240 fps. It also features excellent video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which has been a major problem with all interchangeable lenses designed for still photography. The mechanism and micro-step iris control for smooth exposure changes enable professional-quality video recording. Combined with the Body I.S. and Lens O.I.S., Dual I.S. 2 provides effective hand shake correction.

The exterior design has been refined to live up to the LEICA name. Thanks to its compact size and light weight of around 306g, the LEICA H-ES12035 has the stunning portability that the Micro FourThirds system is also known for. The rugged dust- and ^{splash-proof*} design also withstands use in harsh conditions at 10 degrees below zero. The filter diameter is 58mm, with a 7-blade circular aperture.
