To further enhance the essential values of a camera that remains true to the GR series concept of optimizing image quality, snapshot capability and portability, this latest model in the GR series is equipped with a complete set of newly developed major components, including a Lens and Image Sensor and Image Processing Unit. Despite a compact body that is one size smaller than its predecessor, it features a large APS-C format CMOS image sensor with approximately 24.24 effective megapixels to produce high-resolution images, while its short start-up time of around 0.8 seconds ensures fast, responsive shooting.

A top-of-the-range digital compact camera. In addition, this model is equipped with the legendary GR Lens, which outperforms all other GR lenses with its amazing optical performance. In addition, a six-element, four-group optical system is used to achieve sharp images with clarity from center to edge. In addition, the optical system is slim and compact, allowing the body to accommodate a camera shake reduction mechanism built into the camera. This minimizes the impact of camera shake on image quality and maximizes the full optical performance of the newly developed GR Lens for a wide range of scenes.

This camera utilizes the fundamental advantages of the basic model - exceptional image quality, flawless operation and outstanding mobility - and allows the user to activate the newly developed, integrated HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) with a single movement, which provides soft, smooth images of diffuse light areas in addition to the clear, sharply focused images of the basic models.
This filter allows the user to give the captured images a completely different visual expression depending on the subject or creative intent.

The GR III HDF features the newly developed HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter), which emphasizes high highlights and creates soft, smooth images.
Because the HDF can be turned on and off with a single button press, users can effortlessly switch between two completely different visual expressions depending on the subject or creative intent - clear, sharply focused images, typical of the RICOH GR series, and softer, smoother images captured by the HDF. This creative versatility pushes the visual boundaries of candid photography.

Fast response
High-speed hybrid AF
This high-end digital compact camera features image plane phase-detection AF, which delivers high-speed AF, and contrast-detection AF, which provides excellent focusing precision. The best of these two types are combined to create a hybrid AF. The common problem of searching for focus peaks in contrast detection AF has been significantly reduced in this model. The hybrid system ensures faster autofocus and greater precision.
Shake reduction mechanism for 4 levels* of compensation
This model uses the sensor-shift type shake reduction mechanism. It provides compensation on three axes.

Direct controls
The high-end digital compact camera is equipped with an LCD monitor that supports touch operation and a convenient control dial. These features allow quick control over AF frame movement and menu access.

Firmware with enhanced functionality for an ever-evolving GR III HDF
The GR III HDF is constantly evolving with the latest firmware updates. The extended functionality firmware is provided to add new functions and setting operations.
New features:
The following functions are now available with the GR III HDF:
- The user can pre-program up to three white balance settings as a basic white balance. It is also possible to couple the basic white balance with the white balance fine adjustment function.
- The new model features Zone Select AF, which automatically adjusts the focus to the most appropriate point within the image area after the user has moved the 3x3 focus area to the desired zone. The 3x3 focus area is identical in size to the automatic zone AF mode (center).
Flexible customization
Frequently used functions can be assigned to the ADJ lever and the Fn button. To fine-tune the camera operation, other controls can also be customized to make the camera easier to use and suit your shooting style.
The HDF ON/OFF switching function is assigned to the Fn button by default.

Image control and JPEG image adjustment
The GR III has many advanced image creation functions. The image adjustment parameters have been redesigned to 10 image control options for recording. During playback, image tones can be adjusted from JPEG and saved as a new file.

Introducing the sharp image of the newly developed GR Lens
For even better image quality, the GR Lens has been developed with a new lens design.
This lens uses a slim optical system with six elements in four groups while maintaining the 18.3mm at
(35mm equivalent: 28mm) focal length and brightness of F2.8. High refractive index, low dispersion glass and aspherical, high-precision molded glass lenses are optimally placed in the lens construction to suppress distortion and chromatic aberration to the absolute limit, achieving a high degree of sharpness. This results in sharp and clear images across the entire frame the widest aperture setting.

Meet the new GR ENGINE 6
The image processor in this model is the new GR ENGINE 6, which boosts the GR's essential high image quality performance to deliver even greater detail. Faster processing enables a high pixel count image sensor and multi-level gradation in 14-bit RAW. This also contributes to improved responsiveness and functionality for autofocus and movie.
Shooting at ISO 102400 is possible with our original signal processing technology
As a powerful way to support high image quality, a high-performance processor "Accelerator Unit" has been used in this model. The signal output from the image sensor is sent to the image processor after optimal processing.
This reduces noise and ensures excellent resolution and color reproduction over the entire sensitivity range. It also enables shooting at ISO 102400.
3-axis, 4-stage shake reduction for high image quality over a wide shooting range
This high-end digital compact camera reduces camera shake for razor-sharp images, even when snapshots are taken in fractions of a second. Thanks to the built-in Shake Reduction, the body size of the GR III HDF is more compact than its predecessor. It minimizes shake on three axes, including yaw, pitch and roll axes. Compensation effects provide up to 4 stops of shutter speed*.

AA filter simulator to reduce false color and moiré thanks to Shake Reduction mechanism
The effects of the optical anti-aliasing filter (AA) are achieved with Shake Reduction. By slightly moving the image sensor during exposure, false colors and moiré are suppressed. Depending on the subject, you can choose whether you want to give priority to resolution or reduce false colors and moiré. Select [High] or [Low] for the effect settings.
A compact body and functional design full of high performance
The GR III HDF was developed with a focus on keeping the body size compact while maintaining high functionality. This model is one size smaller than the GR II and about the same size as the GR DIGITAL IV with a 1/1.7 type image sensor. A minimalist design was aimed for Create a tool that emphasizes portability and expression. The button and dial layout has been fully considered to allow comfortable one-handed operation.
Touch panel and dial for intuitive control
The LCD monitor has a touch panel. Simply touch and slide to move the AF frame or access the menu. You can also drag in and out during playback to change the magnification or swipe to display the previous and next image. A rotary control is also positioned around the four-way button. This layout allows the camera to be operated quickly with one simple action, while keeping the high-end digital compact camera securely in place.
Hybrid AF with the combination of image plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF
The AF system is a mixture of image plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF. It combines the advantages of high-speed AF with image-plane phase-detection AF and the focusing precision of contrast-detection AF. The problem of searching for focus peaks that often occurs with contrast detection AF has been reduced for the fast shooting performance required for a snapshot camera.
High-speed approx. 0.8 seconds startup time after power-on
A high-performance motor drives the lens barrel to move quickly from the retracted position to the shooting position. In addition, optimized program processing during start-up shortens the start-up time. Thanks to the integrated lens lock, there is also no need to remove the lens cap, so you never miss a sudden photo opportunity.
Focus modes to suit versatile subjects and shooting styles
Eight focus modes are now available, including the new continuous AF for more versatile shooting styles. A new LCD monitor that supports touch operation has also been integrated for direct control of the AF frame using touch and slide gestures. You can also focus (Touch AF) and shoot while moving the AF frame to quickly capture shots in any type of composition.
Face Detection Auto Focus to support portrait shooting
The high-end digital compact camera detects faces and focuses. This function is activated in [Auto Area AF], [Select AF] and [Pinpoint AF]. It is also possible to activate this function in [Auto Area AF] only. If you want to focus on a subject instead of faces with this setting, simply change the focus mode without turning off Face Detection.
With Full Press Snap, you will never miss a shot again.
When the shutter button is fully pressed, the camera releases the shutter at the preset distance. This high-speed shooting feature is unique to the GR and eliminates the focus delay of half-pressing the shutter button, so you can capture split-second moments instantly.

Picture control for pure picture-making fun
Traditional picture settings and effects have been merged to create a new finish customization function. Ten different image control options form the basis of this function. On this basis, you can adjust parameters to create photos to your liking. These include saturation, hue, high/low key adjustment, contrast, contrast (highlights and shadows), sharpness, shading, clarity, tint, filter effect, grain effect* and HDR tone value.
* The adjustable parameters vary depending on the image control option selected.

Shooting up to 6 cm in macro mode
In macro mode, you can focus with AF between 6 and 12 centimeters from the end of the lens.
This provides almost the same 0.35x shooting magnification as when the GM-1 Macro Conversion Lens is attached to the GR II, without the need for an additional Lens. Simply press the macro button,

Capture star trails with the surrounding landscape even in the city with interval composite shooting
With this function, the digital compact camera automatically shoots continuously for the set interval. You can select this function from the drive modes for instant shooting. The setting items have been reviewed and specialized for star trail shooting. The recording time can be set in 10-minute intervals (up to 24 hours), you can choose between unlimited recording time, save intermediate images and set the time
* Use a tripod. Note that slow shutter speed noise reduction and SR are disabled.
* Focus, exposure and white balance are set when you take the first picture.
Expand expression possibilities with 35mm/50mm crop mode
This function allows you to shoot with an angle of view equivalent to a focal length of 35mm or 50mm. The high-resolution 24M image sensor allows you to capture clear images up to 15M (35mm) and 7M (50mm). This mode allows you to change the angle of view depending on the subject when shooting.
* The focal length corresponds to the 35 mm format and the captured pixels have an aspect ratio of 3:2.
Capture dreamlike shots with multiple exposures
There is no longer a frame limit for compositing. Composited results can be displayed in a transparent display so you can check the composition while overlaying another frame. You can change the exposure parameter*, take a shot, re-shoot and stop shooting for each shot to easily create exactly the kind of photo you envision.
* Exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, aperture and shutter speed can be adjusted based on the exposure mode set for the first frame. White balance cannot be changed
Enjoy RAW processing in the camera without using a PC
RAW format data can be processed on the digital compact camera and saved as a JPEG file.
Adjust the photo to your liking by using only the camera and adjusting the recorded pixels, aspect ratio, white balance, image control and sensitivity.
Highlight-weighted option added to full-featured metering modes
In addition to [Multi-segment], [Center-weighted] and [Spot], [Highlight-weighted] is now available as a metering mode. [Highlight-weighted] helps to keep the exposure even and suppresses highlights on subjects illuminated by spotlights and high contrast subjects.

Super-wide 21mm photography with a wide-angle conversion lens
The new wide-angle conversion lens GW-4 (optional) is compatible with the GR III.
When attached, the angle of view changes to an approximate 90-degree angle of view (21mm equivalent focal length) for super-wide-angle shooting, improved perspective and a wide angle of view.
Shake Reduction is also supported at a focal length of 21 mm.

The GA-1 lens adapter is required to attach the wide-angle converter lens GW-4.
P-TTL auto-sync flash for versatile lighting
An external flash can be used for shooting at full sync speed.
PENTAX P-TTL auto flash (optional) is supported for high-precision automatic synchronization with a pre-flash*. This enables the use of indirect flash and daylight synchronization for a wider range of photographic expression.

This model is equipped with Wi-Fi. This allows you to connect to a smartphone and use the app to transfer images and control the camera remotely.
