The concept of the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary: A lightweight and compact design for everyday use. It has similar technical specifications to its sister model 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports, which is designed to achieve the best possible optical performance in the action segment to meet the requirements of professional photographers.
Equipped with one FLD glass element and three SLD glass elements, the power distribution of the Lens is optimized and lateral chromatic aberrations are minimized. This results in high optical performance. With a super telephoto zoom lens, the image quality in the telephoto range is what counts most and this lens offers outstanding performance. It also compensates very well for distortion across the entire focal length range.
To make this super telephoto zoom lens even more mobile for hands-free outdoor use, we have equipped it with dust and splash protection and - particularly user-friendly - with a removable tripod clamp.
The installation of excellent glass elements minimizes chromatic aberration and achieves first-class image quality. This Lens contains one FLD glass element ("F" Low Dispersion) and three SLD glass elements (Special Low Dispersion), which compensate for typical aberrations to the utmost. The optimized design of these glass elements corrects chromatic aberration in particular, which can become visible mainly in the telephoto range, even when stopped down.
First-class image quality
FLD glass is one of the best types of glass with low dispersion and extremely high transmission. This optical glass has an imaging performance on a par with fluoride glass, with a low refractive index and - compared to conventional glass - low dispersion. It also benefits from high anomalous dispersion. These properties ensure excellent correction of residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum), which cannot be corrected by ordinary glass, and guarantee very sharp and high-contrast images.
Lightweight and compact design for easy portability
Compared to the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports, it is more compact and lighter and therefore easier to handle, enabling freehand photography even over a longer period of time. The tripod clamp is removable so that the Lens can also be used and transported without it. The tripod clamp is made of magnesium, so it is not too heavy and still provides a stable hold. A rubber cover can be attached instead of the tripod clamp, making the Lens even lighter and more comfortable for freehand photography. This Lens is the optimal choice for photographers who want super-telephoto functionality and want to be light on their feet at the same time.
Intelligent OS
The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function incorporates an accelerometer to ensure even greater precision. Two OS modes are available: OS mode 1 is suitable for standard photography and mode 2 is ideal for motorsport shots and other moving objects that require dragging. In Mode 2, the accelerometer, intelligent OS and the new algorithm work together to provide effective stabilization regardless of whether the camera is moved horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This function helps to achieve effective panning and ensures outstanding shots of moving objects.
Note: This Lens is not compatible with analog SLR cameras, except Nikon F6 and Canon EOS 1V.
Optical stabilizer
The zoom lock switch can be used at any focal length
The zoom lock switch allows the zoom ring to be locked at any marked focal length. This fixes the focal length regardless of whether the Lens is pointed upwards or downwards. This is also helpful for long exposures. Nevertheless, the lock can be released at any time by turning the zoom ring slightly (except at 150mm focal length).
A water and oil-repellent coating guarantees a pleasant photographic experience
The outer lenses have a water and oil-repellent coating, water can be easily wiped away and oil and grease do not adhere to the surface. This protects the lens surface and makes it easy to clean.
Dust and splash-proof mount
As with the lens mount of the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports, the mount of the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary is also equipped with a rubber seal to prevent the ingress of dust and water droplets.
Fast focusing
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures fast and silent AF. Continuous improvements to the AF algorithm of previous models have increased the efficiency of focus tracking AF (AF-C) by around 5%.
Two manual modes
The MO (Manual Override) switch position has been added to the AF/MF switch as a further option for focus operation. When the switch is set to the MO position, turning the focus ring results in manual focus even in focus tracking AF mode. In the AF position, the default setting for anytime AF is active. The MO sensitivity can be adjusted using the SIGMA USB dock.
Customizable to your needs
For customizations such as firmware updates, focus adjustment, anytime MF function - combined with the possibility of sensitivity adjustment, i.e. when to switch to MF by turning the focus ring - you can use the optionally available SIGMA USB dock, which connects your Lens to a computer, as well as the associated SIGMA Optimization Pro software. With the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary, the set individualizations can be switched on the Lens itself, depending on the photographic conditions. In individualization mode, the AF speed and the focusing range limiter, with which the desired focus range is delimited, can be set. With the optical stabilizer, you can choose between dynamic OS mode, standard and moderate OS mode.
Compatible with tele-converters
The tele-converters, which have been specially developed for the new SIGMA Global Vision lens product lines, can also be used with this lens. If you combine the 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary with the SIGMA TC-1401 tele-converter, you get a MF 210-840mm F7-9 super telephoto zoom lens.

Performance
The new tele-converters have been developed exclusively for the new Lens product lines. A TC-1401 tele-converter attached between the telephoto Lens and a camera increases the focal length by a factor of 1.4.
Construction
The tele-converter contains SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements, which offer excellent image error correction. It is extraordinary that one of the best glass materials is used for lens accessories. However, as SIGMA strives for the best possible image quality, this is the logical development to meet the new SIGMA Global Vision standards. The converter is dust and splash proof, making it a durable design for professional use. It is compact and lightweight and offers an easy way to increase the focal length range.
