The winners of the Photo Challenge
as part of the Online Fototage 2020
The Photo Challenge of the Online Fototage was all about the three photographic themes Autumn, Lockdown and Architecture.
During this time, you have become photographically active or have picked out existing pictures to take a closer look at them again. The decision was not easy for our jury, there were special and creative submissions and we tried to pick out the best. These are the winners of our challenge!
Here are the respective tasks once again:
Go ahead and fulfill the following photographic tasks. The pictures do not necessarily have to be taken now, i.e. you can also send in existing pictures, but try to take it as an incentive to become photographically active now.
1. Autumn
From Indian summer to rainy, emotional evenings by candlelight. Show us your moments that make fall special!
2. Lockdown
Lockdown was and is a burden for everyone. But even in difficult times, there is a spark of hope and, above all, creativity! Show us how you spent the days at home and what the lockdown triggered in you. Perhaps you were also able to capture some funny scenes during this gloomy time.
3. Architecture
Buildings. Shapes. Colors. Architecture is as creative as your photography! Show us how you perceive architecture. Get creative with the photographic realization!
Tom WaldWinning picture: Autumn theme
Location: M?hlenteich (Reinbek)
Photographer Tom Wald on how his picture was taken:
Coincidence...indeed. I was actually in Reinbek at the M?hlenteich to take photos for the local restaurant. As I was there a little too early, I was able to have a look around and then I saw this enchanting moment. Morning sun, early morning mist and this little duck house on the water. On the other bank, it looked like everyone was still asleep. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. I got my camera out (Sony Alpha 7R II + Samyang 35mm f/2.8 - both now stolen) and as I took the photo, the duck just landed. So it was all pure coincidence. I corrected a few things in Photoshop, but it didn't really take much. I might have wished the branches hanging into the picture had been removed, but that's the way it is. You can't have everything.
I've been a photographer for over 10 years and actually do it as a hobby, but I wouldn't let myself be pushed out of the professional corner. But how do you define professional? I turned 43 on November 8, 2020 and have a lot of photographic plans for this year. I usually manipulate my images and put composings together, but sometimes you stand there and think...ok...that's awesome...that's just going to be a photo.

Georg SchuhWinning image: Architecture
About the photographer Georg Schuh:
I love traveling to non-traditional destinations. Unfortunately, this is difficult for a moment and I can't just take mask photos. That's why I used the forced break to convert suitable pictures into black and white. The picture was taken in Baku in the summer of 2017 and shows the gleaming white Heydar Aliyev Center by the famous architect Zaha Hadid. With red filter simulation in SilverEfex, the blue sky became black. I find the view from the back, with the paving lines in the lawn, more interesting in perspective than the more familiar view from the front. When traveling, I prefer mFT, as I bring everything from the fisheye to the Supertele in a photo backpack approved for hand luggage. The photo was taken with an Olympus E-M1MarkII at a focal length of 9mm, aperture f/6.3 and 1/1,000s.
