Wide-angle lens with natural perspective
The classic lightweight wide-angle lens with 35mm focal length allows you to capture a subject within its environment without perspective distortion - just the way reportage photographers love it.

Excellent low-light properties
The high speed of 1:1.4 allows two f-stops more light onto the sensor than a lens with 1:2.8, making this lens ideal for freehand shots in low light.
A large aperture allows the photographer to selectively reduce the depth of field. Such blur effects are an excellent way of highlighting a subject against an attractive background blur. This looks particularly effective when shooting at wide angle.
The 9-blade iris diaphragm makes this blur area look particularly even and natural.

A new standard in image quality
The "Blue Spectrum Refractive" element was developed by Canon from organic material and solves the problem of color fringing by correcting chromatic aberrations in a way that was not possible before.
UD (Ultra Low-Dispersion) lenses and two aspherical lenses ensure razor-sharp images from the center of the image to the edge - even when the lens is used at maximum aperture.
When shooting into a light source, the SWC (Subwavelength Structure Coating) coating protects against lens flare and stray light.

Fast and discreet focusing - for unexpected snapshots
As the ring USM-driven autofocus performs focusing particularly quickly and precisely and makes virtually no noise, you can take pictures without disturbing anyone.
Manual focusing at any time enables fine focus adjustment without having to switch AF mode and take your eye off the camera.

Can be used even in the harshest weather conditions
The legendary quality of the Canon L series inspires confidence and offers robustness. A weather-resistant seal protects against dust and water spray and the fluorine coating on the front and rear lens prevents fingerprints and dirt from adhering and simplifies cleaning.

"Blue Spectrum Refractive" element
Canon has developed the "Blue Spectrum Refractive" (BR) element to reduce the tendency for color fringing in lenses with a large lens diameter. This special optical material of organic origin is much more effective at correcting such color fringing than fluorite, UD (ultra low dispersion) or super UD glass, for example. Color fringes are caused by chromatic aberration - a phenomenon in which the different colors of light are focused at different points. The use of optical BR material in the EF 35mm 1:1.4L II USM minimizes this effect. As a result, the other elements of the Lens can be optimized for particularly high image sharpness, contrast and reduction of reflections.
