As a further development of the EF 300mm f/2.8, this lens has been completely redesigned as a zoom lens with the image quality of the fixed focal length. The RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM offers a high level of versatility and performance in a compact and lightweight design. Due to its zoom range, close focusing distance of 1.8 m at a maximum magnification of 0.16x, constant speed, robust construction and impressive image quality, the lens appeals primarily to professionals and photo enthusiasts specializing in sports photography.

The new RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM underlines Canon's commitment to the EOS R system with its breathtaking image quality and high flexibility.

Impressive flexibility
The RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM impresses with its super-compact design and is the lightest zoom lens in its class with a weight of approx. 2.59 kg.1 It weighs only approx. 190 g more than the EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS II USM and offers the flexibility of a zoom with the performance of a fixed focal length. It owes its compact design and enormous performance to the RF bayonet of the EOS R system, which allows a consistently high speed of 1:2.8 over the entire zoom range and at the same time extremely fast and precise autofocus.

The lens is compatible with all RF extenders over the entire zoom range. The RF 1.4x Extender increases the range of the lens to 140-420mm F4, while the RF 2x Extender extends the lens to 200-600mm F5.6. This makes the RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM perfect for sports, news and wildlife photography as well as whenever it is not possible to switch between different lenses during a shoot. It is also the first professional RF super telephoto lens to feature a lens control ring and the new configurable L.FN button for even greater customization and manual control.

Impressive optical performance and stunning image quality
The constant high speed of f/2.8 is ideal for low light photography and for controlling depth of field for more dramatic shots, while the 9-blade iris diaphragm creates beautiful bokeh effects. This is supported by the new image stabilizer mechanism, which is based on the IS systems of the super telephoto lenses from the Canon L series. The lens itself offers an optical image stabilizer (up to 5.5 exposure stops), whose performance is increased to six stops in combination with an in-camera image stabilizer (IBIS). This stabilization and the ability to shoot with shorter exposure times even in low light are ideal for freehand photography and video recording of fast-moving subjects. The system also recognizes when shooting from a tripod and automatically deactivates the IS.

The RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM is the first super telephoto lens from Canon with two Nano USM motors for fast focusing and the highest image quality over the entire zoom range, as two lens groups are controlled independently of each other. A fluorite lens and four UD lenses correct chromatic aberration and ensure razor-sharp images and accurate color reproduction, while a pressed aspherical glass lens ensures high resolution from the center of the image to the edge.

Designed for professionals
The RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM combines outstanding durability and reliability for everyday professional use. It has dust and splash protection and can also be used in adverse weather conditions. A fluorine coating enables easy cleaning of the front lens. The RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM has the same heat protection coating as the EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS III USM and EF 600mm f/4 L IS III USM. This is now standard for all RF super telephoto lenses and reduces the temperature of the lens when shooting in hot environments. The ET-124 lens hood, LS100-300 lens case and E-122 lens cap provide additional support and protection.
