With its long range, brilliant resolution, and comfortable handling, this rugged yet compact and lightweight super telephoto lens allows you to take perfect shots even from a long distance.

  • Super mobile super telephoto lens: 400 mm focal length. Weighs approximately 1245 g with an overall length of 234.5 mm.
  • Perfectly balanced: The lens' center of gravity is closer to the camera body, making it easier to track, tilt and stop.
  • F/4.5 aperture: Beautiful bokeh and dramatic depth of field let you isolate your subjects from distracting backgrounds. Fast action is easy to capture.
  • Powerful optics: Nikon's Nano Crystal Coat significantly reduces ghosting and flare. Super ED, ED and SR glass grades control chromatic aberration from the center to the edge of the frame.
  • Fast and quiet focusing: autofocus is very fast, precise and exceptionally quiet. Subject tracking is smooth, whether photographing rallycross, birds, or wildlife.

400mm, and then some
The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S is compatible with lightweight Z-series 1x and 2x teleconverters. Increase your reach to 560mm or 800mm with the same superb resolution and very little additional weight or length.

Quiet focusing, reduced "focus breathing" and smooth aperture control make this Lens ideal for shooting footage with beautifully condensed backgrounds.

Freely configurable.
You can assign different functions to the L-function buttons and silent adjustment ring, and save distance settings with the memory button.³

Lightweight but rugged
Weather sealing and a rubber gasket keep dust, dirt and moisture away from all moving parts. Nikon's fluorine coating protects the front lens and makes cleaning easy.⁴
