The 425 AF phase detection points, together with AF contrast detection, ensure an impressive capture speed of 0.02 seconds. The high-density AF tracking technology is capable of reliably tracking even aimlessly moving subjects.
Consistently focus on your subject with real-time tracking
When tracking a fast-moving subject, the camera's automatic motion tracker uses an artificial intelligence-based subject recognition algorithm and takes into account color, pattern (brightness), subject distance (depth) and face/eye information to recognize the subject. Reliable AF with real-time eye detection for better portrait shots
The AF with real-time eye detection detects your subject's eyes and automatically focuses on them when you hold the shutter button halfway down. You can even choose whether to focus on the subject's left or right eye. When AF-C is activated, the camera focuses reliably even if the face is partially obscured, backlit or looking down.
Autofocus with real-time eye detection for animals
The subject recognition technology of AF with real-time eye detection has been further developed and now recognizes not only human eyes, but also animal eyes. When activated, the function recognizes and tracks animal eyes quickly, accurately and automatically. This enables you to take more beautiful animal portraits and nature shots.
High-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking
Capture every moment of fast action scenes with continuous shooting at up to 11 frames per second or 8 frames per second in silent shutter mode and up to 77 frames. Display lag has been minimized so that up to 8 frames per second can be captured accurately even in Live View mode. Continuous images can be displayed as related image groups in playback mode.
Precise autofocus even in low light
Thanks to the sophisticated AF algorithm, autofocus is ultra-precise even in low light. Thanks to the high AF sensitivity, AF-S autofocus works reliably up to EV -2.
Versatile touch operation
The camera's LCD display can be intuitively operated simply by touch, for example with touchpad (to seamlessly move the focus point), touch focus (to set the focus point), touch shutter (to release the shutter) and touch tracking (to activate real-time AF).
Focus magnification for more precise focus setting in MF and AF mode
If the focus needs to be particularly precise, for example when taking macro shots, you can display the area you want to focus on in magnified form. The focus point can then be adjusted ultra-precisely on the touchscreen or with the focus point selection.
Easy manual focusing with clearly visible peaking
When using manual focus, the camera highlights the part of the image area that is in sharpest focus in color. The peaking colors include blue, red, yellow and white, increasing the visibility of the focus areas for high-precision focusing for macro and portrait shots.
Innovative image processing
The 24.2 megapixel APS-C format ExmorTM CMOS sensor provides a wide sensitivity range and reduces image noise to a minimum. Combined with the next-generation BIONZ XTM image processor, it delivers ultra-sharp, high-resolution, aesthetic images with excellent texture reproduction.

The camera's wide sensitivity range extends from ISO 100 to 32,000 and can be extended to 51,200 for still images. Thanks to the ultra-low noise performance, high-quality images can be taken even at high sensitivity and in low light conditions. Noise reduction and selective focus processing across the image area, area-specific noise reduction and detail rendering technologies reproduce subject structures and shadows in fine detail.

The skin tone function, adopted from our acclaimed latest full-frame cameras, reproduces human skin tones in their natural beauty. This allows you to take perfect portraits.
Creative mode and image effects
In creative mode, you can select settings such as "Vivid" or "Portrait" to give your shots a characteristic look. You can also fine-tune the exposure, contrast, color saturation and sharpness of your shots. With the image effects, e.g. "Partial Color Filter" or "Miniature", you can give your shots a creative touch.
14-bit RAW output for rich colour gradations
Real 14-bit RAW images are made possible by a powerful LSI and the BIONZ X image processor. To maintain soft, natural color gradations, all processing is done at 16-bit. The Super 35 mm format and 4K movie recording with full pixel display without pixel binning enable an approx. 2.4-fold oversampling and thus provide the image information required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). Downscaling videos whose resolution corresponds to 6K ensures a more lifelike display with more details. The high bit rate XAVC S video codec (up to 100 Mbps at 4K 30p/24p) enables professional quality images in a user-friendly format.
Stable, precise AF tracking for better videos
The fast hybrid autofocus ensures high speed, precision and excellent tracking performance to meet the high demands of autofocus for 4K movies. The AF tracking sensitivity can be adjusted depending on the subject for stable focus or fast refocusing. Touch tracking allows you to follow moving subjects by simply touching the LCD.
Slow motion, time-lapse and high-speed recording at 120 frames per second
Slow motion (up to 5x) and time-lapse (up to 60x) can be recorded directly with the camera at up to Full HD resolution, without the need for post-production. In addition, you can create high-quality slow-motion movies from Full HD recordings with a high bit rate (up to 100 Mbps) and high frame rate (up to 120p) through post-processing.
Sophisticated functions for high-quality movie recordings
The α6100A is ideally equipped for video workflows with the Clean HDMI output, adjustable frame rates and proxy recordings. In addition, a range of functions are available to improve the accuracy of movie recording, e.g. the display of overlay markers or grid lines, zebra lines for exposure metering or ISO values for ISO Auto recordings. You can also easily extract still images from movies in playback mode.
Support for high-quality microphones and audio inputs
An external microphone can be connected directly via the camera's microphone socket. You also have the option of using a line input and an input with 48 V phantom power via the separately available XLR adapter kit. This allows you to connect a wide range of high-quality microphones for better audio quality in your film recordings.
Interval recordings for time-lapse films
You can now make interval recordings with a configurable interval between 1 and 60 seconds, from which a time-lapse film can be created on the PC. Using the simple preview at different speeds, you can see what the finished movie looks like on the camera
180° tilting LCD display
The 3" LCD monitor with 921,000 pixels shows your subject in sharp focus. It can be tilted 180° upwards and 74° downwards, making it easy to frame vlogs, selfies and bird's-eye and frog's-eye shots.
Square aspect ratio especially for social media
In addition to the 3:2 and 16:9 (width to height) aspect ratios, a 1:1 aspect ratio, which is often used in social media, is now also possible. This means you no longer have to manually crop your images for publication after taking them.
Betterusability thanks to user-defined functions
You can assign any of the 89 recording and playback functions to up to eight buttons and controls on the camera. The personal menu function can be used to flexibly assign 30 menu functions. With the display of user-defined settings, you always have an overview. Helpful instructions for menu items can be called up on the menu screen at the touch of a button.
Ratings and protection against deletion for photos
Photos can be rated and protected against deletion in playback mode. Both functions can be accessed via pre-assigned custom buttons.
Easy control of white balance settings
The custom white balance setting is easy to adjust. You can set an AWB priority for shooting in artificial light: Atmosphere for warmer tones or White for purer whites.
Versatile flash functions
When shooting with compatible wireless flash units, the second shutter curtain sync option and slow sync option open up new creative possibilities.
One-touch remote control/one-touch sharing, location data
The one-touch remote control function allows you to use your mobile device as a viewfinder and remote control. One-touch sharing allows you to transfer photos and videos to mobile devices for sharing on social media. Using the location data from your cell phone, the camera can also tag your images with the shooting location via Bluetooth®. (Mobile device features available via Sony's Imaging Edge Mobile app.)
