Experience the untouched nature and beautiful wildlife of Patagonia.

The photo tour at the best time of the season on the coasts of Patagonia to visit the right whales in their nursery. Every year we return to this fascinating location. This tour is a journey into the breathtaking wildlife of the Patagonian coasts. In addition to whales and dolphins, sea lions, elephant seals and pampatas, you will encounter Magellanic penguins, rockhopper penguins, gray red-footed cormorants, albatrosses and many other inhabitants of Argentina's Atlantic coast.

You will travel

on routes far away from the usual tourist areas and travel through fantastic landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Patagonia You will be met at Trelew Airport by Harald Braun. The journey to Puerto Pir?mides takes about two hours in minibuses. There you will spend the night at The Paradise Hoster?a. The small, cozy rooms have modern bathrooms with hot and cold running water. The hotel has a restaurant where breakfast is also served. From there you can already see the whales jumping in the Golfo Nuevo. Day 2 - 8 The whales of the Pen?nsula Vald?s Over the next few days you will go whale watching at sea on up to five days. The crew will show you the various behaviors of the animals at close range. Biological processes such as courtship, copulation, spouting, flukes, thermoregulation, but also the social behavior of mother and child are among the observations. Our advantage: we have the whole day at sea to photograph the animals at close range in the best light. The bays off Puerto Pir?mides are among the best places in the world to observe large whales up close. The southern right whales are not shy and come very close to the boats, sometimes making you wonder who is actually watching whom. Dolphin watching is another focal point of the trips. With a bit of luck, you may encounter black dolphins. These animals, also known as dusky dolphins, gather here in large schools as anchovies come to the Gulf to spawn. They are accompanied on their hunt by thousands of seabirds, seals and penguins. It is an exciting experience to encounter such a "food ball", which is usually only seen in documentaries. On one day, a safari around the Vald?s peninsula is on the program. You will visit animals living on the beach, such as elephant seals, but also keep an eye out for seabirds and pampas animals. Guanacos, foxes and maras (pampas hares) are among your companions here. Day 9 Onward journey to the south Drive around 550 km on the Argentinian "Carretera" highway towards the south. Today's destination is Sarmiento, a village in the middle of the pampas. On the way, you will stop at viewpoints along the coasts and, of course, whenever animals cross your path. Overnight stay in Sarmiento. Day 10 The petrified forests of Sarmiento Around 20 km from Sarmiento lies a breathtaking natural park. Here, winds have exposed an erosion landscape in which petrified trees and volcanic eruptions form fantastic motifs. After the hike, the journey continues another 400 km south to Puerto Deseado. This is where Darwin landed with his ship, the HMS Beagle, on December 23, 1833. He found a unique biodiversity in the course of the R?a Deseado, which prompted him to stay and continue his studies. Once we arrive in Puerto Deseado, we check into our chic cabanas. Day 11 In the river of the Ria Deseado Today we take the expedition boat into the shallow course of the river, where you can observe many seabirds and the rare Jacobite dolphins, which look like small orcas at just one meter in size. This makes them one of the smallest whale and dolphin species in the world and they are found in two geographically separate regions of the Southern Hemisphere. Recently, white-bellied dolphins (also known as Chilean dolphins) have also been discovered in the river. On the way, you will stop at Bird Island, where gulls, cormorants and penguins breed. Day 12 The island of the rockhopper penguins You will visit Penguin Island, about 20 km off the coast, where the northernmost and only accessible colony of about 8,000 rockhopper penguins lives. In addition to the approximately 60,000 Magellanic penguins, elephant seals, sea lions, skuas, cormorants, Jacobites and peale dolphins live here. Bird lovers will be delighted, as a total of 136 different species have been observed so far. The beautiful gray cormorant with its steel-blue eyes stands out in particular. These rare birds nest in the cliffs of the riverbed. Penguin Island is home to an 18th century sea lion factory and a century-old lighthouse. The island is therefore an ideal place for photographers to capture a very special atmosphere. Only 200 tourists are allowed on the island each year. This is the only place in the world where you can reach rockhopper penguins from the mainland. This is otherwise only possible on cruises or on the Falklands. Day 13 Birdwatching on the R?a Deseado Today you will drive and walk along the course of the river to observe birds such as flamingos, night herons, gray cormorants, rock cormorants and various birds of prey. In the afternoon we start our return journey to Commodore Rivadavia, where we spend the last night. Here we will also have a final dinner. Day 14 Departure from Patagonia In the early morning you will be driven to the airport to start your journey home. Note: The accommodation listed in the itinerary is subject to availability (except for train journeys).

Astrophotography in Tenerife, Spain

Lyrid meteor shower, Milky Way and planet parade: Jupiter, Saturn, Mars The Lyrid meteor stream offers cosmic fireworks in April. The Lyrids are an active meteor stream that occurs every spring from April 16 to 26. For an astrophotographer, the meteors are a perfect photo motif. On the one hand, because they move relatively slowly across the night sky at a geocentric speed of 48 km/sec and, on the other hand, because sometimes relatively bright specimens, the so-called fireballs, can be seen. The name of the meteor shower Lyrids is derived from the constellation Lyra (Latin lyra), the ancient plucked instrument Lyra. learn more
