The winners of the Photo Challenge
as part of the Online Fototage 2021
The Photo Challenge of the Online Fototage was all about the three photographic themes color, motion blur and water.
You have become photographically active during this time or have picked out existing pictures again to take a closer look at them. The decision was not easy for our jury, there were special and creative submissions and we tried to pick out the best. These are the winners of our challenge!
Here are the respective tasks once again:
Go ahead and complete one, two or all three photographic tasks. The pictures do not necessarily have to be taken now (i.e. you can also send in existing pictures), but try to take it as an incentive to become photographically active now.
1. Color
Show your colors! Play with different shades and show us how you use color as a stylistic device!
2. Motion blur
A classic that should never be missing! Show us how you can add dynamism to your pictures with the help of motion blur!
3. Water
Water is our everyday companion. Show us how you can best showcase this element!

Tino Weigelt tells the following background story about his picture: "The picture of this street (once taken by Steffan Liebermann) won the Blende photo competition in 2019. I found its realization very beautiful and I was simply overwhelmed by the picture. As an amateur photographer, I also wanted to try my hand at this motif. I waited all summer for the right moment in the fall. The sun was low and the autumn colors were radiant, so the time had finally come and I rode my bike, my son and the DJI Mini 2 to the location to take my own photo.
I chose the following settings on the Dji Mini 2 to capture the mood perfectly:
Aperture f/2.8
ISO 100
Shutter speed 1/400s

Dominic BradtWinning picture: Water
This photo was taken in January 2021 during the recently extended lockdown and the associated contact restrictions. I actually just wanted to prove to a friend that you can take creative photos within your own four walls. I already had everything I needed at home. A houseplant in front of a white wall. A flash (with green color foil) which fired from the floor against the white wall. My camera with a macro lens on a tripod and, of course, a drop of water. That's how this atmospheric picture of a drop of water came about!
About me: My name is Dominic Bradt, I'm 41 years old and I live in the Bergisches Land region outside Cologne. My core areas are people and product photography. I do everything from classic portraits to wedding reportages and photos for magazines. I have been active as a photographer since 2018 and have been photographing in the Cologne / Bonn and Düsseldorf area together with my business partner since December 2020. I really like working in the studio because I can control the light the way I like it 24 hours a day, regardless of the weather.

Ian BackesWinning image: Motion blur
The background of the picture:
"I took this picture in Malang, Indonesia at the time. It wasn't really an evening when I had a specific image in mind, but rather a happy coincidence. I was out with a few people and had my camera with me - you never know. As dusk was falling, I had to keep increasing the exposure time anyway, so I started playing with motion blur. After a few failed shots of cars and rickshaws, I tried my luck again and saw a moped in my viewfinder. One continuous shot later, I knew this was going to be one of my favorite images of the whole trip. "
