Versatile super telephoto performance

The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is ideal for photographers who want to travel light and carry just one telephoto lens. It's a great choice for sports and nature photographers; the 100-400mm focal length range brings distant subjects close and allows you to react quickly to changing situations. When used with an APS-C camera, the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM offers a focal length range of 160-640mm (equivalent to full frame).


Razor sharp in any light

The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM enables razor-sharp, high-contrast images thanks to fluorite and Super UD (Super Ultra-Low Dispersion) glass lenses, which reduce artefacts and distortion. An optical image stabilizer with three modes protects against camera shake and thus enables up to four stops longer exposure times when shooting hand-held.


No fear of stray light

When photographing into a light source, Canon's multi-layer ASC (Air Sphere Coating) reduces stray light, lens flare and reduced contrast. ASC consists of a multi-layer lens coating that reduces reflections. One layer contains nanoscale air particles that evenly slow down the light as it enters the Lens, reducing reflections that can impair image quality.


Ergonomic handling

Every photographer has their own individual way of working. The adjustment resistance of the zoom ring can be adjusted using a special ring: A low resistance is ideal, for example, if the image composition has to be done quickly in a constantly changing situation. On the other hand, you may want the zoom ring to be a little harder to adjust or even fixed if you want to prevent the focal length from changing accidentally.


When required: fast focusing

The fast USM-powered autofocus focuses precisely and almost silently. Manual focusing at any time enables precise fine-tuning of the focus without taking your eye off the camera. The close focusing distance of the EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6L IS II USM is approx. 0.98 m, so that even subjects that come unexpectedly close can still be sharply focused.


Protection against environmental influences

Can be used even in the harshest weather conditions. As a Canon L series Lens, the EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6L IS II USM is also protected against dust and moisture. This allows you to continue taking pictures even in poor weather conditions. The fluorine-coated front element repels dirt and makes cleaning easier.

Top mit meiner Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Ich habe den Kauf nicht bereut. Sehr schneller AF, sehr zuverlässig, sehr scharfe Bilder bis an den Rand, nicht zu schwer, also bisher bin ich total begeistert von diesem Objektiv. Vor kurzem habe ich mir noch den Canon EF Extender 1,4x III dazu gekauft und das passt total. ich kann ALLE meine 61 Fokusfelder nutzen und nicht wie einige mir es sagten, dass man nur 9 Fokusfelder nutzen kann, das stimmt nicht.

Tolle Bildergebnisse
Vorab: Ich bin total begeistert von den Bildergebnissen dieses Objektivs an meiner Vollformat-Canon. Klasse Bildschärfe mit einem wunderbaren Bokeh.
Durch die Bildstabilisatoren gelingt es, auch mit 400mm frei Hand eine tolle Schärfe zu erzielen.
Das Gewicht ist schon ganz ordentlich und man muss bereit sein, es mit sich herum zu tragen.
Besonders gut finde ich, dass man den Widerstand für das Zoomen einstellen kann.
Ich habe das an meinem Objektiv so eingestellt, dass das Zoomen noch relativ leicht geht, aber ein unbeabsichtigtes Verstellen der Brennweite vermieden wird.
Schön finde ich, dass die Gegenlichtblende einen Schieber hat, den man öffnen und z.B. die Einstellung des Polfilters verändern kann, ohne die Geli abzunehmen.

Für mich hat aber die Gegenlichtblende ein Manko. Sie hat noch einen etwas größeren Durchmesser als das Objektiv selbst. Damit lässt sie sich schlecht (bei kleinen Händen) beim Laufen an- und absetzen. Ich habe mein Problem (Handschuhgröße 7,5) so gelöst, dass ich einfach eine größere Tasche benutze, in die Kamera mit Objektiv und mit angesetzter Geli hereinpassen.
Bei Fototouren nehm ich nämlich gern (vor allem bei diesem Gewicht) die Kamera "vom Hals" und stecke diese in die Fototasche.
