14-bit RAW output for rich color gradation
For more natural gradation, the BIONZ X image processor and front-end LSI process image signals in 16-bit form. This processor enables data output in 14-bit RAW, even in silent mode or continuous shooting mode.

4D FOCUS - Autofocusing evolves
Autofocus performance has been improved by optimally applying the same autofocus innovations as the α9. So once the α7 III captures subjects with unpredictable movements, such as dancers, boxers, and wildlife in action, it keeps them in focus.

Furthermore, this camera has an impressive number of phase-detection autofocus points: 693 of them, covering about 93% of the image area, and 425 densely placed contrast-detection autofocus points for better focusing.

Fast hybrid autofocus combines AF phase detection for excellent speed and tracking with high-precision AF contrast detection. This system doubles autofocus speed.

Improved AF tracking for fast-moving subjects - Autofocus performance inherited from the α9 provides AF tracking with greater precision during continuous shooting of fast-moving, action-packed scenes. Faster readout of the image sensor enables tracking of even complex subject movements and precise anticipation of sudden movements.

Improved AF algorithms contribute to high autofocus precision at light levels down to EV-3 and provide more reliable autofocus for scenes in the dark.

693-point focal plane autofocus with phase detection not only covers a wide range and responds instantly - it provides high tracking performance even with an A-mount lens mounted via Lens Adapter LA-EA3.

Eye-detection AF revolutionizes portraits -
With the α7 III, eye-detection AF can now be used in AF-C mode to achieve effective eye detection or tracking performance when shooting: Even when the face is partially in darkness, even when the subject is looking down, and even when backlit.

The α7 III features a touch focus function and a touch pad function. This allows you to intuitively move the focus area with a finger movement when using the viewfinder.

Use autofocus for photos while the focus area is magnified in the viewfinder or on the monitor, and magnify the view after autofocusing.

AF fields/points can be changed when you switch between horizontal and vertical orientation. You can assign focus point settings to custom buttons.

Fast continuous shooting captures the most important moments
The α7 III can take continuous shots at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and up to 8 frames per second in Live View mode. The camera also supports silent shooting at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and maximum resolution.

Up to 177 JPEG (standard) images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images can be captured in a single burst.

Full pixel display without binning for high-definition 4K movies - Pixel display without binning in 35mm full-frame mode makes it possible to compress approximately 2.4 times as much data as required for 4K movies (QFHD: 3,840 x 2,160), minimizing moiré effects and image defects. In addition, 4K recording uses the XAVC S format with bit rates up to 100 Mbps.

Improved fast hybrid autofocus for video recording - Fast hybrid autofocus with phase detection and contrast detection locks onto moving subjects and tracks them smoothly. A wide autofocus range, similar to that for stills, is now available for movies. Reduced autofocus speed at the low end allows for more pronounced effects when focusing slowly.

HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) for instant HDR workflow - Movies shot in HLG image mode are displayed true to life with minimal underexposed or overexposed areas without color correction.

S-Log enhances gradation from shadows to midtones and a wide dynamic range of up to 14 steps. Choose from frame rates between 1 and 120/100 frames per second for up to 60x fast motion and 5x slow motion.

It allows users to express their creativity when shooting photos and videos in a wide variety of situations. Combined with the latest Sony Alpha series cameras, this Lens is ideal for capturing landscapes, buildings, starry skies and much more. The new model is also excellent for close-up shots and also scores with its precise and quiet autofocus (AF).

Excellent resolution with an extremely wide 16 mm angle of view
The FE 16mm F1.8 G is a perfect Lens for spectacular, dynamic wide-angle shots. Its optical design includes two AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements that contribute to impressive resolution at all apertures. A Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element and three ED elements correct colour aberrations throughout the image, while the optimized coating minimizes flare and ghosting effects.

Impressive G Lens bokeh and outstanding close-up performance
With its 11-blade circular aperture and a maximum aperture of F1.8, the new G Lens enables breathtaking bokeh effects. The minimum autofocus distance of 0.15 meters with a maximum magnification of 0.25x (MF: 0.13 meters, 0.30x) enables excellent close-ups. All this helps to realize unique ultra-wide perspectives with deep, exquisite bokeh.

Ultra-wide angle with large aperture in a compact lens
Thanks to the use of aspherical elements, including high-precision AA elements from Sony, it has been possible to develop an ultra-wide-angle lens for full-frame format that measures a compact 73.8 x 75 mm and weighs only 304 grams. The FE 16mm F1.8 G is small, lightweight and portable, yet offers spectacular image quality for a wide range of subjects including landscapes, buildings, starry skies and much more.

Fast, precise autofocus for outstanding shots
Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors provide fast, precise autofocus with tracking. A control algorithm developed specifically for the XD linear motors improves responsiveness to minimize delays and vibrations that can easily occur when controlling large focus groups, ensuring an exceptionally quiet and low-vibration operation. All this means that the FE 16mm F1.8 G allows users to reliably capture important moments even when the subject is moving fast.

Excellent, stable performance when shooting video
The FE 16mm F1.8 G's advanced lens technology reduces focus breathing to ensure smooth video recording. The Focus Breathing Compensation1 of compatible Alpha cameras is also supported, as is the in-camera image stabilization with Active Mode2. The latter makes it easier to record smooth, stable wide-angle videos even when walking. In addition, the new lens is compatible with a standard 67 mm front filter and can be easily balanced on a gimbal.

Comprehensive control options and maximum reliability
The lens has a focus ring, focus hold button, focus adjustment switch, aperture ring and aperture lock switch. Other functions can also be assigned to the focus hold button. The aperture ring allows convenient control of the aperture opening, while an on/off click switch for the aperture steps increases versatility. The focus adjustment switch allows instant switching between autofocus and manual mode. The dust- and moisture-resistant design3 and fluorine coating on the front of the lens ensure maximum reliability and durability.
