High-precision stabilization achieves a 5.0 step improvement in shutter speed through a stabilization unit and gyro sensors and algorithms. This system compensates for camera shake with many Lenses and provides excellent performance.

14-bit RAW output for rich color gradation
For more natural gradation, the BIONZ X image processor and front-end LSI process image signals in 16-bit form. This processor enables data output in 14-bit RAW, even in silent mode or continuous shooting mode.

4D FOCUS - Autofocusing evolves
Autofocus performance has been improved by optimally applying the same autofocus innovations as the α9. So once the α7 III captures subjects with unpredictable movements, such as dancers, boxers, and wildlife in action, it keeps them in focus.

Furthermore, this camera has an impressive number of phase-detection autofocus points: 693 of them, covering about 93% of the image area, and 425 densely placed contrast-detection autofocus points for better focusing.

Fast hybrid autofocus combines AF phase detection for excellent speed and tracking with high-precision AF contrast detection. This system doubles autofocus speed.

Improved AF tracking for fast-moving subjects - Autofocus performance inherited from the α9 provides AF tracking with greater precision during continuous shooting of fast-moving, action-packed scenes. Faster readout of the image sensor enables tracking of even complex subject movements and precise anticipation of sudden movements.

Improved AF algorithms contribute to high autofocus precision at light levels down to EV-3 and provide more reliable autofocus for scenes in the dark.

693-point focal plane autofocus with phase detection not only covers a wide range and responds instantly - it provides high tracking performance even with an A-mount lens mounted via Lens Adapter LA-EA3.

Eye-detection AF revolutionizes portraits -
With the α7 III, eye-detection AF can now be used in AF-C mode to achieve effective eye detection or tracking performance when shooting: Even when the face is partially in darkness, even when the subject is looking down, and even when backlit.

The α7 III features a touch focus function and a touch pad function. This allows you to intuitively move the focus area with a finger movement when using the viewfinder.

Use autofocus for photos while the focus area is magnified in the viewfinder or on the monitor, and magnify the view after autofocusing.

AF fields/points can be changed when you switch between horizontal and vertical orientation. You can assign focus point settings to custom buttons.

Fast continuous shooting captures the most important moments
The α7 III can take continuous shots at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and up to 8 frames per second in Live View mode. The camera also supports silent shooting at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and maximum resolution.

Up to 177 JPEG (standard) images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images can be captured in a single burst.

This camera enables silent shooting at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking. Noiselessness can be critical in scenes where even quiet noise can thwart the ideal shot.

Artificial light flicker is detected, then the shutter is timed to minimize possible exposure and color anomalies in images taken at fast shutter speeds or during continuous shooting.

High-resolution 4K HDR2
In addition to the ability to capture stunning 4K movies by oversampling by 2.4 times, the camera offers a new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) image profile that supports an instant HDR workflow.

Full pixel display without binning for high-definition 4K movies - Pixel display without binning in 35mm full-frame mode makes it possible to compress approximately 2.4 times as much data as required for 4K movies (QFHD: 3,840 x 2,160), minimizing moiré effects and image defects. In addition, 4K recording uses the XAVC S format with bit rates up to 100 Mbps.

Improved fast hybrid autofocus for video recording - Fast hybrid autofocus with phase detection and contrast detection locks onto moving subjects and tracks them smoothly. A wide autofocus range, similar to that for stills, is now available for movies. Reduced autofocus speed at the low end allows for more pronounced effects when focusing slowly.

HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) for instant HDR workflow - Movies shot in HLG image mode are displayed true to life with minimal underexposed or overexposed areas without color correction.

S-Log enhances gradation from shadows to midtones and a wide dynamic range of up to 14 steps. Choose from frame rates between 1 and 120/100 frames per second for up to 60x fast motion and 5x slow motion.

The α7 III's operation is enhanced by quick controls during shooting, amazingly clear views via Tru-Finder, versatile connectivity, extended shooting time through multiple power sources, and high durability and resistance in humid and dusty conditions.

Longer Battery Life for More Shooting at Profile Length
The new α7 III uses an NP-FZ100 battery that offers up to 2.2 times the capacity of an NP-FW50. This allows you to take up to 710 shots on just one full charge. You can charge your battery even faster with the optional BC-QZ1.

Two media slots, support for UHS-II
With two media slots - including one with UHS-II compatibility for fast data processing - the α7 III can perform simultaneous or relay shooting, separate RAW/JPEG data and photos/videos, and move data between cards.

Same operability in horizontal and vertical positions

The design of the VG-C3EM body makes it almost as easy to operate the camera in the vertical position as in the horizontal position, with almost the same buttons and controls as those on the back of the camera. For example, the portrait grip offers a multi-function selector for quick AF point selection.

The shape of the VG-C3EM grip ensures more secure handling and provides almost the same stability when shooting in portrait mode as in landscape mode.

Almost twice the operating time

Two NP-FZ100 batteries can be charged in the body of the VG-C3EM portrait grip. You can check the remaining battery charge in percentage using the charge level indicator on the camera's LCD (minimum unit is 1%). When the charge of one battery is depleted, the other is automatically turned on to ensure uninterrupted operation.

Charging via USB port on camera body

You can charge batteries inserted in the portrait grip via the camera's USB port without removing the grip from the camera body.

Like the α9, this grip is made of magnesium alloy and is extremely rugged and lightweight.

Use of this accessory in combination with the LA-EA2/EA4 adapter mount is not supported. When both are used at the same time, holding the grip is difficult due to the narrow gap between the accessory and the Lens Adapter Mount.
