No disturbing noises
The electronic anti-distortion shutter ensures noiseless shooting5 so that no mechanical mirrors or shutters disturb concentration, e.g. at a sporting event.

Anti-flicker ^system6
The camera detects flicker from neon lights and other artificial light and triggers the shutter to avoid exposure and color anomalies (at fast shutter speeds) and inconsistencies in continuous shooting.

With the mechanical shutter, continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second7 is now possible - even with ^flash8. High-speed continuous shooting can be taken as required.

4D FOCUS: wide autofocus range
With 693 AF phase detection points and 425 AF contrast detection points, the sensor provides extensive AF coverage of 93% of the image area.

4D FOCUS: fast autofocus
The optimized responsive hybrid AF of the α9 II captures subjects with great accuracy even in difficult lighting conditions.

4DFOCUS: continuous tracking
Continuous AF and an optimized AF algorithm significantly improve AF accuracy and tracking. Even when the shutter release button is pressed, the permanently activated AF tracks random subject movements seamlessly.

What is 4D FOCUS?
Ordinary autofocus (AF) only captures space. 4D FOCUS goes one step further: an innovative image sensor captures both time and space, enabling exceptionally clear images of moving objects. The result is razor-sharp images like you've never seen before. Forget plain old autofocus - the future of photography is in motion.

Reliable even in low light conditions
State-of-the-art AF algorithms enable high AF precision in difficult lighting conditions up to EV-3. The "Focus priority" option under aperture control is used for more precise focusing in low light13 or smaller aperture values.

User-friendly focus frame
The focus area can now be moved to any position using the multi-selection function, even when the shutter release button is pressed halfway. Depending on the subject, you can set a red or white focus frame.

The electronic viewfinder with 3.68 million pixels15 displays images in detail. The refresh rate of 120 ^fps16 ensures a smooth viewfinder image. The fluorine layer on the outside of the Lens repels dirt and is easy to clean.

Integrated optical 5-axis image stabilization
The integrated optical 5-axis image stabilization offers a shutter speed advantage of 5.5 ^steps17. Live View image stabilization makes it easier to frame moving images.

Blur reduction
Sony has redesigned the shutter assembly with damped screws that absorb shutter movement. An optimized image stabilization algorithm reduces camera shake. In addition, the shutter is now quieter.

Aesthetic 4K videos
With full pixel readout without pixel binning, 2.4 times more data can be processed than required for 4K (equivalent to the amount of data for 6K) to achieve a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and thus aesthetic 4K videos - in addition to the versatile use with fast hybrid autofocus, AF with eye detection, touch tracking, etc.

Wide range of video functions
AF with eye detection in real time for videos
The AF with eye detection in real time now also recognizes the subject's eyes when shooting video. Since the α9 II keeps the eye precisely in focus and tracks it continuously, there is more time for ^framing18.

Touch tracking for constant focusing
For videos with the α9 II, tap your subject on the LCD screen to automatically focus and track it via touch tracking. If a human eye is detected, AF with eye detection is also activated in real time.

Compatible with new multifunction microphone
The Multi Interface accessory shoe (MI shoe) has been expanded to include a digital audio interface. Use the new ECM-B1M shotgun microphone for high-quality audio recording with minimal loss of quality.

Professional workflows
High-speed transmission with 1000BASE-T available
Smooth, reliable and very secure high-speed data transfer of large image files to an FTP server is now possible via a LAN connection with support for 1000BASE-T FTPS (File Transfer Protocol over SSL/TLS).

Support for FTP background data transfer
During and after shooting with the α9 II, JPEG and RAW files can be transferred via FTP in the ^background19 to allow professionals to deliver quickly. Up to nine FTP servers can be assigned in advance.

Voice memos for images
With the new voice ^memos20 you can describe image content or shooting conditions for up to 60 seconds and attach them to the images as WAV files. IPTC and camera serial number data can also be embedded in image files.

Remote control via Remote Camera Tool
You can control the camera remotely using the Remote Camera ^Tool21 desktop application. This is practical when direct access is not possible, for example when shooting from a bird's eye view in a stadium.

Provision of Wi-Fi with 5 GHz
In addition to the 2.4 GHz band, high-speed Wi-Fi transmission is now also possible via a 5 GHz band (WLAN IEEE 802.11ac⁾²². You can also take wireless remote-controlled shots via a PC for shooting without annoying ^cables23.

Even faster PC remote control via USB cable connection
The new USB Type-CTM connection and an optimized PC remote control algorithm significantly increase the data transfer rate. Even uncompressed large RAW images can be transferred quickly without interrupting the workflow.

Made for professionals
Shooting sessions in profile length
The α9 II is equipped with a high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery. Alternatively, by using the optional VG-C4EM vertical grip with two of these batteries, a longer operating time can be achieved for worry-free shooting on the move.

Two media slots with UHS-II support
The two UHS-I and UHS-II compatible media slots allow data to be stored quickly. Simultaneous or relay shooting, separating RAW/JPEG and photos/videos, copying data from one card to the other - no problem with the α9 II.

Saving and loading settings
This new function saves and reads camera settings via an SD card - for convenient use on other α9 II cameras. In the FTP transfer functions, you can save and load your FTP settings using the corresponding function.

Efficientimage selection
You can rate or protect images directly when viewing them, as well as view larger photo collections in groups of 10 or 100 shots and continuous shooting in groups.

Improved menu interface
The display of user-defined button settings on the menu screen makes operation easier. You can also use the front dial or the Fn button to switch between menu tabs with one hand.
