Super telephoto zoom - the FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS
The E-mount full-frame lens scores with high resolution across the entire zoom range and a beautiful bokeh that only G lenses can offer.

Sony today introduces the FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS (SEL400800G) - its first1 G lens with 800mm super telephoto zoom. This brand new Alpha Lens boasts high resolution performance throughout the zoom range, stunning bokeh and fast, accurate and pinpoint AF (autofocus). In addition, the internal zoom design, which minimizes shifts in the centre of gravity, ensures a stable image section when focusing. The lens is also compatible with Sony's 1.4x or 2x teleconverter2, available separately, which extends the focal length up to 1600mm - ideal for capturing birds, wildlife, sporting events, airplanes and landscapes.

Zoom into the distance with 800 mm super telephoto zoom
The FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS provides users with an Alpha Lens that covers a super telephoto range from 400 mm to 800 mm and even reaches a maximum focal length of 1600 mm with a 2x teleconverter. Thanks to the internal zoom mechanism, the length of the lens does not change even when the focal length is changed, so the center of gravity remains almost the same. This ensures stable handling and control. The smooth, easy-to-rotate zoom ring ensures precise zooming. the careful design also prevents unintentional adjustment of the focal length.

Beautiful image and natural bokeh throughout the zoom range
The FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS has a circular aperture with 11 blades, which contributes to a beautiful, round bokeh with a soft, creamy background when shooting with shallow depth of field. Six ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements enable effective correction of color aberrations, and flare and backlight ghosting effects are also effectively suppressed for outstanding shots.

Precise autofocus that captures even the fastest subjects
The focus group of the FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS is driven by two precise linear motors that enable fast and accurate focusing. Tracking keeps pace with the Alpha 9 III's maximum continuous shooting speed of 120 fps3, and the quiet operation extends the range of applications. A focus range switch (FULL/10m-NEAR/ ¥-8m) is also available to optimize control for different subject distances. The successful suppression of focus breathing contributes to excellent video quality.

Secure hold when shooting hand-held or on a tripod
Thanks to the integrated optical SteadyShot image stabilizer, the FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS makes it easy to take hand-held shots without blurring. The stabilization works even better when the Lens is combined with an Alpha camera that has internal image stabilization. Durable components, optimized balance and a non-detachable lens base ensure maximum reliability and performance. If a tripod is used, the tripod mount can be quickly rotated for horizontal or vertical alignment, supporting a wide range of subjects.

Secure control and maximum reliability in any situation
Three focus hold buttons are arranged around the barrel of the FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS at 90° intervals, making it easy to access in any orientation. Additional functions can be assigned to these buttons if required. The internal zoom and the dust- and moisture-resistant design4 ensure maximum reliability. The front of the Lens has a fluorine coating that repels dirt and makes cleaning easier if dirt does stick. The full-time DMF function automatically activates manual focus as soon as the focusing ring is turned: This allows users* to easily make manual fine adjustments or change the focus completely, even when the autofocus is preset. Finally, the design of the lens hood has been revised, which now features a locking button and a filter opening for easy operation.
