Tokina's compact mirror lens design has been realized by incorporating mirrors on the front and back of the body. With conventional optical Lens, light passes through the lens and onto the camera sensor. With mirror lenses, however, the light enters the lens twice and is reflected by mirrors before reaching the sensor. By "folding" the light path twice, the focal length is shortened, which enables a smaller lens design.
The optical system of mirror lenses is called a catadioptric system. The Hubble Space Telescope and NASA's James Webb Space Telescope use this catadioptric system, albeit on a much larger scale.

Telephoto lenses are prone to chromatic aberrations (CA) due to their complex optical design. To reduce these, manufacturers integrate additional color correction lenses into the already bulky and heavy construction.

Classic mirror lenses are known for their susceptibility to flare and ghosting, which occurs when light passes through tiny gaps directly onto the sensor.
The Tokina SZ 900mmPRO Reflex F11 MF CF is equipped with a shielding ring that prevents light from falling directly onto the sensor. This suppresses stray light and ghost images and maintains contrast even without a lens hood under normal shooting conditions.

Integrated mount
The Tokina SZ 900mmPRO Reflex F11 MF CF is compatible with APS-C cameras with Sony E, Canon EF-M and Fujifilm X bayonets thanks to its integrated bayonet. This bayonet design enables stable reproduction quality and makes it easy to attach and detach the lens.
Easy to focus
The Tokina SZ PRO series includes manual focus lenses. Tokina interchangeable lenses are generally equipped with a focus ring that can be rotated by 45° to 200°. High-quality cinema lenses have larger rotation angles of up to 300°.
The Tokina SZ 900mmPRO Reflex F11 MF CF offers a focus rotation angle of 270°, which enables precise focusing processes with a shallow depth of field.
Perfect round donut-shaped bokeh
Mirror lenses are known for their unique, ring-shaped bokeh, which is created by reproducing light sources in out-of-focus areas. Some mirror lenses produce an incomplete, ring-shaped bokeh that appears as a C-shape.
