The world of telephoto lenses as a fascinating cosmos

How high-tech optics change our view borders almost on magic. And so it is not uncommon for telephoto lenses to overcome limits in many ways: from the world's first lens with a speed of 2.8 at a focal length of 500 millimeters from Sigma, to lenses with teleconverters from Nikon, to ultralight lenses from Canon or Pentax, they are all particularly suitable for wildlife and nature photography, where close zooming in on the subject of the image is required. The telephoto lenses from Hasselblad and Leica set new standards in freehand telephotography. When shooting both close and distant subjects, the lenses ensure outstanding reproduction of contrasts right up to the extreme image angles at all apertures. Post-processing of the photos by Software is superfluous with such top lenses. This clearly demonstrates the suitability of telephoto lenses for portrait photography because of their enormous flexibility. Olympus comes up trumps with what is currently the lightest and most compact telephoto (Micro Four Thirds mount) and with the most powerful image stabilization system in the world. In the mid-range price segment, Nikon scores with top models among the handy telephoto lenses, suitable for Nikon EF mounts. A wide range of telephoto lenses deliver the highest image quality even in the poorest lighting conditions: Fujifilm, for example, offers fast teles for mirrorless system cameras. Lenses from Zeiss, Sony, Samyang, Panasonic, Walimex, Voigtl?nder, Tamron, suitable for full-frame and medium-format sensors as well as for APS-C sensor, are equipped with autofocus and other features. Depending on the body, whether CSC (system cameras) or SLR (single lens reflex cameras) or medium format camera, and depending on the connection, the selection has the right lens ready for all common mounts and application areas.

  • Wildlife / safari photography
  • Bird photography
