The D850's fast, ultra-high-resolution FX-format sensor offers an effective resolution of 45.7 megapixels for richly detailed 45.4 MP files. Print extremely high-resolution images in extra-large formats. True full-frame film in 4K. The back-illuminated CMOS image sensor does without an optical low-pass filter and has microlenses integrated into the chip as well as an anti-reflective coating. Incident light hits the photodiodes more efficiently, allowing you to benefit from an extraordinary level of detail and a unique dynamic range. And the 153-point AF system inherited from the D5 ensures the razor-sharp focusing and coverage you need for full-frame, ultra-high resolution shooting.

Breathtaking speed at 45.4 MP

With this ultimate combination of speed, detail and precision, you can take award-worthy shots. The continuous shooting rate is up to 9 fps at full resolution when using optional accessories. Phenomenal autofocus.

Capture decisive seconds with this unique combination of performance and endurance. The D850 shoots at up to 7 fps. With the optional MB-D18 multifunctional grip and EN-EL18 series battery (as in D4, D4s, D5) even 9 fps are possible. This applies to images in full resolution, even in RAW format (NEF). With the standard EN-EL15a battery, 1840 images are possible on a single charge (in "single image" mode, according to CIPA standards). A special AF processor ensures phenomenal subject recognition during fast shooting sequences: Even in difficult lighting conditions, you can track even fast-moving small subjects with remarkable precision. The autofocus system with 153 focusing areas including 99 cross-type sensors (as in the D5) works with unique precision and high light sensitivity down to -3 EV in all focus areas. The center focusing area even offers sensitivity down to -4 EV (ISO 100, 20 °C).

Unique response to light, nuance and expression

Reveal hidden details even in dark scenes and the deepest shadows. With a class-leading ISO range of 64 to 25,600, expandable to 32 to 102,400 (equivalent).

Experience extremely low-noise image results at high ISO values and high exposure precision even when shooting at dusk. The fast EXPEED 5 image processing engine inherited from the D5 ensures fantastic image quality across the entire wide ISO range. The antive ISO sensitivity of ISO 64, at which the standard ISO range begins, enables phenomenal image quality without any limitation to the huge dynamic range offered by the camera. The low ISO starting value also offers extended possibilities in bright shooting environments through the use of a larger aperture or when using flash in daylight. The 180,000 pixel RGB metering sensor and advanced scene recognition system enable spectacular results with highly accurate exposure control down to -3 EV.
