With its looks and dials, the Z f may remind you of the 35mm SLRs of yesteryear, but this full-frame mirrorless camera offers the performance of today - and meets your creative needs. The full-frame CMOS sensor with 24.5 megapixels and the EXPEED 7 engine are perfectly matched. Together with the high light yield offered by the large diameter of the Z bayonet, they give you more creative freedom. Sharpness, contrast, color fidelity, dynamic range, focus precision, low-light performance - you're given all the tools you need to create your own unique style. EXPEED 7 is used in Nikon's professional Z 8 and Z 9 cameras and enables perfect interaction between all the camera's systems. It runs the deep learning AF algorithms that allow the Z f to recognize and track more subjects than any other mirrorless camera system. It also enables the enormously powerful VR* with 8.0 EV steps. EXPEED 7 is also behind the clear, noise-free images at high ISO values. When shooting movies, the maximum native ISO sensitivity is 51,200 (and can be extended to 204,800 in Hi2 mode). You've never seen image stabilization (VR) like this before. The Z f's extremely powerful VR system ensures blur-free shots - thanks to an incredible 8.0 stops of effectiveness with 5-axis image stabilization and the world's first focus-area VR.1,2 When shooting, the focus-area VR offers truly revolutionary control over the sharpest point in the frame. The image is not simply stabilized in the centre, but aligned to the active focus point by the VR system. Whether you focus on the outer edge of the image or let the AF follow a fast-moving subject: The focus is rock-solid. When shooting movies, you can combine the camera's internal sensor shift VR with the electronic VR.3 This ensures smooth freehand shots. When using NIKKOR-Z wide-angle lenses, any trapezoidal distortion is also corrected. Whether photos or movies: With the camera's internal VR, fixed focal length lenses can be excellently stabilized. Even if you are using your highly valued and time-honored NIKKOR Lens with F bayonet: The powerful VR of the Z f supports you with its 8.0 EV stops of effectiveness - without sacrificing image quality.
Scene recognition even with manual focusing
Thanks to the powerful EXPEED 7 engine and Deep Learning technology, this mirrorless full-frame camera offers the ultimate support for manual focusing: Scene Detection When shooting with manual focus (MF) and scene detection enabled, the Z f detects the subject and moves the focus point there automatically. This saves you a lot of time when photographing people or animals. You can rely on the camera to reliably place the focus point on the face or even the eye. This allows you to devote your full attention to the composition. MF focus detection works regardless of whether you are shooting via the viewfinder or the monitor. You can also use it for shooting with classic Lens with F bayonet.
Unlimited tilting and rotating monitor
With the first unrestricted tilting and rotating touchscreen monitor on a full-frame Nikon Z-series camera, you can keep everything in view easily and clearly from any angle when shooting. What's more, the touch function call offers you a completely new way of assigning shooting functions. With Touch Function Call, you can assign button functions to nine customizable areas of the bright, high-resolution touch screen. The camera can be operated flexibly and intuitively: By tapping on an area, you can easily move the focus point, switch between the subject's eyes, select grid lines, activate a virtual horizon and much more. When the touch function is activated, you can even use your thumb on the monitor to control the position of the focus area while looking through the viewfinder. Regardless of whether you are shooting using the monitor or viewfinder, the camera can be operated smoothly. If you are shooting in portrait format, the menus and controls on the screen are aligned vertically. If you turn the monitor towards you, the camera also automatically switches to self-portrait mode.
Stunning detail with Pixel Shift
The Z f is the first Nikon Z camera to support a Pixel Shift option that combines up to 32 exposures to produce ultra-high resolution images with unsurpassed detail and spectacular color fidelity. The function is ideal for shooting in controlled studio environments - or any other environment - where the subject remains absolutely still. By selecting a one-pixel shift, you can merge four or eight shots into one 24-megapixel RAW image. This corresponds to the size of four RAW images. With a pixel shift of 0.5 pixels, 16 or 32 shots can be merged together to create a RAW image with an impressive resolution of 96 MP and a maximum image size of 16 RAW images. When you merge eight or 32 shots together, moiré, color fringing and noise are significantly reduced. Combined with the razor-sharp focusing of the Z f, the results of pixel-shift shots are astounding. From breathtaking to unimaginable - nothing could be better.4
