The compact and versatile FE 12-24 Millimeter F2.8 GM ultra-wide-angle zoom lens (model name SEL-1224GM) is ideal for landscape photography, night sky photography and architectural views. It also provides additional mobility for active sports photographers who want to work with ultra-wide angles.

The new FE 12-24 millimeter F2.8 GM Lens from Sony joins Sony's renowned G Master Lens series. It delivers outstanding image quality while producing beautiful bokeh effects at a constant aperture of F2.8, a strength that pays off especially when shooting landscapes or architecture with extremely wide 12 millimeter angles of view. With the introduction of the new 12-24 millimeter G Master Lens, the F2.8 range of Sony's G Master series now includes focal lengths from 12 to 200 millimeters and offers a constant aperture of F2.8 from as little as 12 millimeters. This focal length makes it possible to emphasize distances and create dynamic perspectives that go beyond what the human eye is capable of. This opens up a whole new range of creative expression for photographers.

Outstanding Image Quality
The ultra-wide-angle zoom lens benefits from a detailed, innovative design that ensures outstanding image quality throughout the zoom range and all the way to the edge of the frame. The model features three exceptionally precise XA (Extreme Aspherical) Lens elements, including the largest XA element ever made for an Alpha lens. Together with another aspherical element, these XA elements suppress astigmatism, coma and field curvature all the way to the edges of the image. In addition, there are three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and two Super ED glass elements that minimize chromatic aberrations, ensure a consistently clear image, and prevent distracting color fringing.

A floating focus system divides the Lens's focus group into two independently controllable groups, providing both excellent close-up performance and maximum sharpness at any distance. In addition, this system helps ensure a constant minimum focus distance of 0.28 meters throughout the zoom range. Because the Lens is internally focused, its length remains constant and the center of gravity barely shifts, so it is always optimally balanced in the hand.

Excellent Bokeh
The characteristic bokeh effects of Sony's G Master lenses are achieved by fine-tuning the spherical aberration characteristics during both the design and manufacturing processes. At the same time, the extremely high surface precision of the XA elements effectively suppresses onion ring effects and, in combination with a nine-blade circular aperture, further enhances the remarkable beauty of the bokeh effects.
Fast, precise and quiet.

The FE 12-24 millimeter F2.8 GM uses four extremely fast original XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors to take full advantage of the speed performance of current and future camera bodies. Two motors for each focus group of the Lens provide responsive, precise autofocus. New control algorithms maximize the responsiveness of the XD-linear motor system while ensuring flawless synchronization between the two focus groups. Another benefit is extremely quiet operation with minimal vibration.
For the first time, the new G Master Lens uses a brand-new Nano AR Coating II that can be applied evenly to large lens elements or highly curved element surfaces. Nano AR Coating II prevents internal reflections and minimizes flare and ghosting effects. The result is high contrast and clarity throughout the image, despite the lens' wide angle of view and even in difficult lighting conditions.

Excellent movie shooting
The constant maximum aperture of F2.8 at any focal length ensures stable exposure when zooming. This in turn makes it possible to keep the shutter speed and ISO sensitivity constant when shooting movies. Filming with a 12-millimeter angle of view at a constant aperture of F2.8 in full-frame format opens up a particularly wide range of creative possibilities. When used with an APS-C camera or Super-35 format, the wide end of the zoom range is equivalent to 18 millimeters, creating a very advantageous zoom range for movie shooting.

Professional control options
Weighing in at 847 grams, the FE 12-24 millimeter F2.8 GM comes loaded with numerous functions and features for professional control of shooting. These include a customizable focus hold button, focus adjustment switch, zoom ring and focus ring, all positioned for quick access when shooting. Linear response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly to the most subtle changes when focusing manually, so control is immediate and precise. The Lens is dust and moisture resistant, and the front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, and also makes it easier to wipe fingerprints off the lens surface. The rear filter holder accommodates standard ND filters, color correction filters, and other filters that offer new creative ways to shape images. A cutting template for layered filters is included.
