Fast APS-C standard zoom at F2.8
Sony's first 16-55mm (equivalent to 24-82.5mm full frame) APS-C zoom lens with a constant F2.8 aperture is very compact and offers performance that matches the G-series. A new optical design enables high resolution from the center of the frame to the edges and great bokeh effects. It is compact, lightweight and versatile.

High resolution throughout the zoom range, even at F2.8
Two AA and two aspherical elements correct aberrations for high resolution from center to edge. Three ED glass elements minimize bleeding. Sony AR Nano Coating provides high resistance to ghosting and light effects for sharp contrast. Precise control of spherical aberration and a nine-blade circular aperture create smooth bokeh.

Compact, lightweight, and clear
Optimized mechanical and optical design makes the weight of the compact 16-55mm zoom lens (equivalent to 24-82.5mm full-frame) with constant F2.8 aperture just 494 grams. Combined with a compact E-mount body, this lens forms a portable, handy system for a wide range of applications - from portraits to everyday snapshots.

XD Linear Motor- fast autofocus, precise tracking
This APS-C lens uses the same type of XD Linear Motor that maximizes focus performance in the G-Master series. Harnessing the potential of the camera body, the XD linear motor enables focusing and tracking of even fast-moving subjects with impressive speed and precision. Quiet operation allows filmmakers to take advantage of the constant F2.8 aperture.

Professional Control and Reliability
A customizable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, and MF with linear response provide versatile control and high precision even in challenging conditions. To protect against water and dirt, the front lens element has a fluorine coating. The Lens is dust and splash resistant2, making it ideal for outdoor shooting.
